I want to start puree phase two days early.

Recommended Posts

I'm really most likely not going to do this, but it won't get out of my head, so I just need to spill it. I was on clear liquid phase for two weeks post-op, and have been on full liquids for two weeks after that. I'm set to start purees on Monday, but part of me just wants to start it now. It's not that I'm sitting here just craving food and wanting to eat, it's more that I'm just still feeling so weak. Don't get me wrong. A bit of mushy tuna or chicken sounds heavenly right now, but it's not torturing me. I don't know if that's normal on full liquids or not to feel this weak. I mean, I get all my nutrients, but everything, even showers, are a battle and I have no energy whatsoever. It just feels time to move on to the next phase.

At the same time, I feel like I'd be cheating if I started today instead of Monday, and I know too well the mental impact that can have. Part of me says, it's really not that big of a deal, some people start purees right after the hospital. My surgeon was excellent though. I could not have had a more ideal surgical experience. He did an amazing job and the entire clinic is great, and if they say two weeks, then there's a reason for that and I just need to be patient and wait. It's the tiny steps that lead to big failures, and I feel like if I fail down the road, I could look back at this decision as the one that started it all. So, I'm going to to try and hold out for Monday. I can deal with feeling crappy for a little while longer, and it's not like I ever felt like leaping tall buildings in a single bound prior to surgery.

Thanks for listening!

ill be honest with you, I was on Clear Liquids from feb 1- 10 then full liquids 10- 22. I was tired of liquids so I started the puree phase a two day early! Now I am starting the soft phase early because EVERYTIME i eat something pureed I get sick!! I can not deal with the thickness of the food. Lastnight I had two boiled shrimp and did fine. Today i had a scambled egg well 1/2 and doing well. I am still losing.

I was on limited liquids for two weeks after I was sleeved on 2/4. After about 12 days, I cried when I looked at a Protein Shake. I was scheduled to start softs on Monday the 18th. On Sunday, I tried some cream of wheat and half a scrambled egg. It went down well. I had no problems. I saw the doctor yesterday and he said I looked fantastic, my vitals were perfect and I lost 25% more weight than his expectations. I am always nervous to deviate from doctor orders but I decided to go with what my body was telling me guided by common sense.

Count me in on starting the next phase 2 days early. Now, my NUT did say I could start real foods last week, but I just kept eating soft foods for an extra week. I am not sure why, other than it was just easier based on my travel schedule to do the soft foods. I am traveling to Santa Fe, NM this week and I am looking forward to having a few bites of real food at various restaurants. One of my colleagues who knows about my surgery joked that my Santa Fe trip was being "wasted" on me as all of the amazing restaurants. But, heck, I can order a couple of small plates, and taste different things. And, the best news is that my company can pay for my taste testing. :)

So, if you really want to, try one meal with scrambled eggs or canned chicken / tuna with low fat mayo.< /p>

My doctor actually told me to not start the different phases early. She said that it will help your body physically heal and it proves to you and the doctor that you can follow instructions. I was on Clear Liquids for one week. Full liquids for another week. I am now on soft foods for 4 weeks. The first part of the week I did sweet potatoes and cream of wheat. I just tried scrambled eggs today. So move slowly. I will have to say that I have more energy on real food instead of just liquids.

I am supposed to stay on liquids but h e failed miserably. I am 12 days post op but I started eating puréed foods after 1 week. My body told me I needed to. I was so weak and I could not stomach the Protein Shakes so I had absolutely no energy. I have been blending Soups and eating cottage cheese and I actually have some energy now. I have to see my NUT on Wednesday but I don't know if I should even tell her I haven't been in liquids:(.

I'm in the same boat. Was supposed to start Monday but started today. My reasoning is I want to be home, not at work, in case I get sick. I figure 2 days isn't so bad. and if I get sick, I'll go back to liquids

It sounds like we had our surgery at the same time. I had mine on Feb 6th and was on clear liquids the first two days afterwards, then was on full liquids for two weeks. After the first two weeks, I was allowed to start my phase 3 soft foods.

I got mixed info from my surgeon center. Initially I thought I was supposed to be on full liquids for two weeks and I was so weak and tired. Then I came across the info sheet that said I started purees at week 2. I was so relieved and I wondered how I could have possibly made that mistake. Knowing I could start purees a week earlier than I thought got me through the next few days. I was on purees two days when I found another info sheet that said full liquids for two weeks!! I thought I was seeing things and stared at those info sheets side by side for ten minutes. I don't know which one is really right. My stomach feels kind of tender, so I can understand being on liquids two weeks. But physically, I was so weak and tired. Being able to eat cottage cheese and apple sauce made me feel so much better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
