January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I haven't been on in a while, busy with life. I was banded on Jan 11th and just had my second fill last week. I'm down about 25lb which I feel great about (no pre-op diet, lower BMI). I have a question about Sliming v/s PBing.

It seems like since my 2nd fill I am much more restricted and even after 2 bites of oatmeal, I find myself bringing up salavia (I guess that won't go through?) Is that what is considered PBing? I know you need to try and stay away from PBing, and i'm not really throwing anything back up~ no food. It's just like nothing can get threw. I know this may be to detailed but I'm not sure if I should go back for an unfill, the last thing I want to do is cause a slipage but not sure if I'm just going through a learning curve. I know I need to learn to slow down and eat MUCH smaller bites. I feel like it is great that I finaly have restriciton but not sure if it is to much. Is this normal?

Sorry to ramble but any advise would be great.

You guys are the best.

Congrats to all the great losses!

Sara

Hi Sara

PBing is when food actually comes back up. It is essentially throwing up, but not quite as gross because the food hasn't mixed with your stomach acids yet.

I am going through the exact same thing as you right now. My second fill has me very restricted and I am learning some hard lessons about taking smaller bites and chewing well. I've barfed 3 times since this fill. Most of the time it's when I ate one bite too many. I've had some food get stuck too, and the sliming is crazy. I have to spit spit spit and then I start burping. If the burping settles down, then I know I'm good to go, but if I start getting clammy, then I know some PB action is coming.

I decided that if I barf one more time, I'm going to ask for a tiny little unfill.

The 10cc band is the 4cc band.

Its actually 10 CM, (which is the size of the band) that holds 4cc's and the 9.75 CM band holds 4cc's too. My doc told me the 10 cm band can actually hold up to 5cc's.

I think a lot of people get confused by the length of the band and the amount it holds. And a lot confuse the 10 cm band with the 10 cc band (VG) which is I think 13 cm in length and the largest band, it takes a bit longer to get to the sweet spot, however, it is a more forgiving band (in terms of PBing).

All the books I've read state this about the VG band. And they say it is more individualized, It just takes longer because it is a larger band.

Hope everyone is doing good!

Good clarification, however my Dr told me that I have a 10 cc band and that for the first fill he does 4 cc then 2 then 1. So maybe this is the VG band but referred to as a 10 cc band. You may want to clarify with Dr as to how fill the band will hold verses what size band.

The VG band is referred to as 10 cc a lot of time, because it holds up to 10 cc's. The 10 CM band is referred to as 4 cc band at times. There is a difference.

I have the 10 cm band, which holds up to 4cc's or 5cc's, I'm at 2.2 cc's. If you have 4cc's in your band for the first fill, I can almost guarantee you that you have the VG band or otherwise known as the 10 cc band.

Wow, have I confused everyone? Just remember, there is a difference in CM & CC's. The CM is length, and the cc's is volume.

HI everyone

Today my monthly visitor has arrived and I have no appetite for anything. And I have the worst cramps ever. :sick I just took my tylenol w/ codeine and hopefully I will be sleeping away. :notagree I haven't gotten on the scale but I plan to weigh in on Friday. I am doing a lot better with food choices. I finally went to the grocery store for the first time since surgery and bought some fish veggies snd fruit. I tried eating grapes yesterday and they didn't do so well. I have to peel the grapes fully in order to eat them because the skin gets stuck. I am going to try broccoli tonight and see what happens????? If all else fails I still have my chili frozen in a ice cube tray from my mushy stage. Well I am glad to hear that everybody is doing well.

Quick question how soon can u get a 2nd fill. I just had my first one and I feel the restriction leaving slowly. I think I could use a little more restriction because I am able to eat a considerable amount before getting full. :hungry:

I have a 10cc band. (why) I feel like I should have gotten a 4cc, I dont know why he gave me the big one...my first fill was 1cc and I gained a pound since then..no restriction, eating like a pig, and pissed...my doctor emailed and said eat a small meal and "walk away: if I could have done that, I wouldnt be paying 467 dollars a month for the next damn 6 years! I am quite disappointed, (can ya tell?) I am on my way to my sisters for dinner...lets see how much I can eat there...sh$#!!

I know how you feel. I got .5 my first fill and have no restriction. I go in tomorrow for my 2nd fill. I hope he is more agressive. Hang in there. It will get better. Our bands aren't working yet.

As for when you can get your second fill, that really depends upon your surgeon. Mine told me to come back in two months, unless I felt that I needed to come back sooner. However, no sooner then one month.

I'm not exactly "hungry", but I am eating more in one sitting then I think I should. I'm still going to wait to set a fill date for the end of April, though. Since I'm still losing...

I got my second fill toady. .5 cc. (in total 1.5 cc in my 4cc band):faint: Let me tell you..DID IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! I've discovered the uncomfortable and unattractive art of PB and slimming at the same time. HOLY SH>>>!!!!!!!!! :welldoneclap: It hurts, it's gross and I'm miserable!!!! I had 1 small teeny tine bite of chicken and 2 bites of mashed potatoes and that was it. Now I guess it kinda irritated my "stoma" and NOTHING STAYS DOWN!!!!! I'm waiting a few hours to see if I can get at least liquids down (cause it does feel like everythig came out)...SO, to answer the question of ...did you feel restriction after the 2nd filll, YUP, I sure did:eek: !!!!!!!!

Okay, you guys have me scared! My second fill is scheduled for next Monday....I have 1.25cc in a 4 cc band. I don't usually get hungry but am trying to tackle the eating out of habit! Have lost 36.5 pounds since January 4 so am pleased with the loss and being able to eat whatever I want (within reason). I try to keep calories between 1000 and 1200 and Proteins around 70. It's worked so far and have been able to eat bites of foods (Subway sandwich!) but am scared to eat more than 1 bite! Have only slimed one time on a McDonald's french fry....gonna be a long time before I try that again!

Guess I'll leave it up to the Doctor but thinking I don't want much of a fill as long as I'm losing on a regular basis?!??!!? What do you guys think?

5Jacks..i hope it wasn't my fault...:welldoneclap: I apologize for scaring you if it was...:think I didn't mean too, i was just venting......Everyone is different and reacts dfferent to fills. I can also say it was probably my fault too due to the fact that with my first fill I had hardly any restriction and got away with eating faster. i personally feel that I need the most restriciton I can get. You see my other medical conditions do not let the pounds come off as much as they should. I excercise daily (I walk 4-6 miles aday, 30 minutes on stationary bike, 20 minutes of wieghts and between 50-100 crunches 5-7 times a week)My MD and I came up with a plan that should help me and only me. If we have to deviate, so be it..but it's an individual thing...:Banane20: ..If you feel comfortable where you are then I would stay at the level you are at..If you have the trust you should have with your MD I woud also talk to him and the nutrtionist... (mine helps me inmensely)...Keep me posted..and again I'm so sorry for scaring you...

Blessings!!!:kiss2:

Welcome to my world!! LOL! After barfing 4 times since I got my fill last Thursday, I finally called the doc's office today. She told me to do ONLY warm/hot liquids tonight. I'm supposed to call back tomorrow morning and let them know if the liquids stayed down. She also told me to wait at least 4 hours after something is stuck to put ANYTHING (even water) down my throat. Maybe that will help you? I hope you are feeling better!

More on the subject of PBing... I forgot to mention how awesome it was to find the closest bathroom door locked. I had to throw up in the sink in the breakroom. I was alone for most of the sliming action, but then just as the big one hit, one of our office ladies walked in. Good times! I was like, "Um, sorry you had to witness that..."

Sheesh!

Hi fellow bandsters,

I had my second fill this week and I'm happy 'cause I'm finally feeling the restriction again. I haven't pb'd or slimed but definitely can't eat the quantity I was eating before this fill. Maybe we should all go back and read the bandster rules from the beginning of this forum. I know I've gotten kind of complacent about following all the rules perfectly. This link was posted by Sunshine sometime ago, good info to review...

O.K. ....thinking the PMS is starting, had a panic attack (just kidding) earlier! After talking to DH have decided that I'm so "comfortable" with the way things are right now that I'm not real excited about changing them. I mean, it's really good to be able to eat anything you want, pretty much whenever you want....right? But, that's what got me into this situation, lack of self control on a regular basis. So, after reading more posts and realizing that if they put too much in, heck, they can take a little out! Am so pleased with my band so far! I've never been able to lost 36.5 pounds in such a short time (Surgery was 1/18/07) with so little effort! It feels great to have my oldest son (11 yo) put his arm around me now...."just because he can", and he always goes away with a smile, as do I!

So thanks to everyone for "grounding" me again! Thanks for the support!

Lisa.

Just checkin in!

I have been away for a week and a half due to my step daughters wedding and father in law staying here.

So glad it is all over!!!

My dress fit so good and I was so happy!

I was very premenstrual and finally got my period so I will weigh in on Friday. I feel like I have lost but I have been eating anything since my father in law was taking us out a lot.

For the first time in my life I was told by my father in law that he was concerned about me since he noticed I didn't eat that much!!!! Can you believe that???? I have never ever been told that!!!!!!!!

So either restriction kicked in or being premenstrual and on my period made my band tigther. I eat about 1/3 of what I used to but can eat anything with out restriction or having to eat slow.

I don't know if I want to push it with a 2nd fill. If I keep on losing I will leave things alone till I stop losing. I will know for sure on Friday.

Hope you are all doing well!!!!

Audree

Hey, Audree -- I was wondering when you'd be back. Glad to hear you're having some restriction from that 1st fill. I'm on fill #3 and still not feeling much difference. I bet everyone at the wedding noticed your weight loss. Did you get some comments?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
