I am freaking out a little and looking for advice. I get sleeved in less than 2 weeks and just don't know how I am going to deal with telling people.

I have been so heavy all my life people are going to take notice. I told my close family/friends but am not sure what to tell the others.

I am also looking for people my age to talk with and just share what is normal, what we are eating, etc. if anyone wants a pen pal let me know! I am 34, married and ready to start the next chapter of my life. One of the reasons I am doing this is to get pregnant in 2 years or so since right now I am unable to.

Sorry I'm babbling but just wondering if others like me are out there :)

Hi there! ;) I am 32 and have a 2y/o but there were some complications with his birth probably related to my weight, so having another child is one of my many reasons for having this surgery as well. I have been obese my entire life, and so far, few people have said anything to me except close family and friends. I am down 60 pounds and I kind of feel like no one has noticed? I wouldn't obsess too much about what to tell others. I personally have chosen to be very open with friends, family and co-workers (I work in the medical field so they probably would have guessed anyway) but to each their own. Other people when asked have just said I am on a doctor supervised diet with strict Portion Control. I would stick as close to the truth as possible, just makes things altogether easier. :) You are most definitely not alone! feel free to add me as a friend if you would like.

Hi

I'm 37 with 5 children, and married. My main reasons for having the surgery was a health scare. I decided not to tell anyone but a couple of very close friends and my immediate family. this was due to feeling like I would be judged for my actions. The week I started the pre op diet I told staff I was starting a healthy eatting diet, which was true, I stated I was cutting down my calories which was also true. I feel that I do not have to tell anyone my business. The choice is yours who you tell, don't feel forced to tell people if you really don't want to. I've lost 28 pounds since pre op diet and my surgery on the 23/1/13. Good luck with your journey :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
