Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

Surgery was 4/17/13. I am doing c2 5 k with a friend. We have been doing it about 10 weeks. We've repeated days and weeks to make it through. I am now able to do 25 minutes if straight jogging without a break. Not up to 5 k yet' date=' I'm slow! Lol. But my friend is having trouble getting past 5 minutes straight. Still way better than week one when we couldn't run 30 seconds straight!

As of today...down 61#[/quote']

Wow! You are going to town!! Awesome job. I'm just now getting to week 7 and the 25 min runs. I only run about 2.3 miles in that time so I'm slow too but I'm moving. I figure when I complete the cycle ill start over again and increase my speed. Keep encouraging your friend and tell her we're cheering her on.

Week 7 Day 1 done. I ran the whole 25 min so I'm happy. Finally feeling like I might actually become a full fledged runner! ;-)

Took a couple of weeks off from running to let my wonky foot rest. Repeated W4D3 on the treadmill today as a test. Seemed to be okay, but am going off to the ortho today to get a shot. :o Plan on running my first 5k in about 8 years this Saturday with my girls, IF the foot behaves. It is a trail race so I won't be pounding the pavement. Hopefully it will happen as this is one of my 3 BIG goals for having this surgery.

UGH..Ortho says bad heel spur and stress fracture in the foot. No running for 1 month, not even on the treadmill. New orthotic, says my good foot might not take much more pounding...bummmed. No nsaids either, just have to keep icing it. I may still try to run on Saturday though....not a all happy....

I'm so proof of all of us! Who'd a thunk it, us, running!?

I did it! I can't believe I went from 8+8 to 20 in 2 days. This app is crazy awesome! I forgot to stretch tho. I wonder how much damage is done. "/ I've never forgotten that again. I wanted to see how fast (er, slow?) my mile was, and I dknt think its too shabby.

I cried when I finished- couldn't believe it!!

That is great Amy! Good progress over the last few weeks and it really shows. As for stretching, it makes a world of difference to do it before running in addition to a good warmup routine. If you would like some suggestions on warmup exercises others then a slight jog, let me know.

Thanks fiddle! I haven't been stretching before running because I read articles that said a lot of running injuries were because of pre run stretching. I'm all ears though, I'd like to know what works for you. I know when I was researching chi running there was a very colorful character showing a group of people some stretches. I think maybe its only necessary to go to that extent for really long runs? Or maybe not since 20 minutes to me is long. *shrug*

I do the ttapp workout and at the beginning she has a primary back stretch that also stretches your legs. I thought about doing that before I run.

Ps- when I say "run" I mean "jog" my 8 year old son is all too quick to remind me. Lol. So when you suggest a 10 minute warmup jog I have to giggle cuz a 10 minute jog would be half of my "run". Clear as mud? ;)

I am starting week six tomorrow. Why does my app refer to it as "the dreaded weeks six?"

5K Sat morning. Picking up packets tomorrow. Color Run (I'll be walking fast). Will see if my husband suggests any more 5K's in the future. He is not happy about the color. Ha !Ha!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
