Texarkana Bandsters

Recommended Posts

ok, I was afraid I had missed the meeting. I will try to update you, as I am sure others will too. Like I said before, I haven't been able to go, because of night classes, but I am not going to miss again, (hopefully :)

Hi everyone! ;)

I was banded last Friday, 1/9/09, by Dr. H. So far, so good!

I'd love to hear from others and your experiences. I'm definitely looking forward to 2009!

Hello Everyone~

I haven't been on in quite a while, just busy working all the time. I read back a few pages here to see what's happening to all you fellow bandsters. I too have been a very slow loser. I was banded Oct.2007 and just knew I would be 100 lbs lighter by now......didn't happen. I've had a very hard time watching portions, eating 3 times a day, drinking Water and staying active. For a long time I thought I could just eat anything, since I couldn't eat that much, calories didn't matter to me, or I would only eat whenever I felt hungry. If I get busy, I often "forget" to eat. I've got about 40 years of bad habits to break here.

I am constantly being told,"I can tell in your face that you've lost some wt, but don't see it anywhere else."

A real eye opener for me last week was when a co-worker compared me to an "anorexic and old looking" recent bandster (8 mo.) and then asked me why my band had failed?! That really made me feel bad and I had one of those light bulb moments where I realized the band didn't fail me, I have gone down 5 sizes in clothes, lost 40 lbs, have not gained anything,,,,but "I am not utilizing the band to it's fullest." I hadn't realized so many people are watching me and have high expectations. I often wish I hadn't let anyone know that I had done this. I realize now that losing wt. really begins in your head. One more thing, I didn't do the BAND for anyone but ME.....I wanted to feel good about myself, body, mind, and spirit.

All you folk's out there......don't give up on that young and spirited soul that dwells inside!;)

Hello Everyone!

Well, we've all been absent from the site around here lately. I went into the hospital thurs. for "another" port replacement and came out tuesday without a gallbladder! It' been a very tiring week but now i'm on the road to recovery. Hopefully having my gallbladder out will make me feel better!

Hi all,

Aligmamma, I am so glad to see you back on, hope you are having a great recovery.

KCM welcome to the site

NewJulie, congrats for starting over, It is funny how people want to tell us what to do, even when I was on WW or any other diet. I have not told to many of my "friends and acquaintances, but lots of strangers. We were out of town and they heard me talking to the waitress, asking for smaller portions and they just come up to you and beg to know about it. They don't judge you or try to "tell" you what to do, like family :( and friends.

This is going to be our year!!! We are all going to Celebrate 2009 as the year we made it, or at least the year we stayed in the box!!

God Bless,

Well, this just shows-to-go-ya, um, goes-to show-ya how much time I've NOT spent on this site! I guess it's one of those duh! kind of things. ANYWAY, I'm glad I found this group. I was banded by Dr. H. on February 6th, 2008. I weighed 310 pounds when I started the two-week liquid diet, and had lost down to 290 on the day of my surgery. I'm not sure if this is the norm or not, but I was pretty pleased with myself. I sort of got used to it, but was glad when I got to the mushies stage! One of the major struggles I had was about two weeks post-op, when we had our annual Valentine's Day banquet at church...catered by Texas Road House! All I could do was sniff the air and drink tea. Ah, but this year...I think I'll have a bit of steak! My last visit to Dr. H was January 6th, and I had lost two pounds, and while Dr. H was pleased with my 76-pound weight loss, he seemed to think I had reached a plateau, and now I'm scheduled to see him on the 27th of this month, and have to present him with a food diary. :scared2: He will be pleased to know that I've started working out at Curves, which is accepting Humana's SilverSneakers program. And, I am ashamed to say, but will admit, that I've never been to a lap-band support group meeting. Why? I just don't know. Hey--I just realized that I am writing quite a lot here, so I will "sign off" for now and come back tomorrow.

It's been a while since I posted, because of crazy bad lunch the past few weeks.

I had a fill yesterday and spent the evening/night throwing up everything and slimming even when I hadn't tried to drink anything. I called Betty and got in at 9am this morning for an unfill. Dr. H took half my fill out, I'm feeling better, but not at 100% yet.

This was my 1st time seeing him since that awful visit in July, I'm glad it's over with, now I don't have to worry so much about how I will react next time I see him. Hopefully my BP won't be up because of nerves eveytime I'm in the office now. I went by Jow smoothies and bought some ANYWHEY flavorless Protein Powder. You're supposed to use it in cooking, anybody tried this?

The only anywhey I've bought came from the Dr.'s office. I have not used it in cooking. I just put it in some of my drinks and shake it up or sprinkle it on my cream of wheat. Sometimes it's kind of lumpy. I need to go for a fill myself. I can surely relate to getting too much of a fill. It's no fun.

I tried it this evening in potato Soup and couldn't tell it had a supplement in it. Hopefully, everything I put it in will be this good! I'm feeling better now that I have some liquids in me.

lo2us,

this is addy, welcome back. Glad that you are feeling a little better. I have used the Protein powder before, you can put it in anything. I sent you a response, when I saw you on the clothes exchange. Long letter, I am not exactly sure where it is :) there are so many sites. I responded with a reply on that site. Please, try to find it and let me know if you do or don't. We are banded on the same day!!!

feel better,

Well, I FINALLY get to move this danged ticker! I've lost about 8lbs these past two weeks. Granted, last week I had a horrible time with a fill that was WAY too tight and had to go back twice and get some taken out. I could possibly be at my "sweet spot" (knock on wood) since I haven't been hungry at all, or even thought about food. It's been over a year since I've made significant progress and I'm ready to get moving again!

How is everyone else doing?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
