To tell, or not to tell?

Recommended Posts

I have told some people but very few as there are certain people I just don't want to know at all. I think you need to do what is good for you. I have found since I am 11 months out I do tell some people I come across. I sometimes feel guilty if I don't tell them and they talk about my weight loss a lot.

I have been taught that lesson many times, hopefully I have learned it, time will tell. <_<:)

I have noticed that how you tell folks has much to do with how they perceive it. Tell them like it's something you are trying to hide and they will sense your weakness and join you in looking down at you. Tell them like it's a real accomplishment and something you are proud of like getting a new Jaguar and they will resist putting you down knowing that you probably have a good defense.

Well said!

I totally agree. I haven't been met with much negativity, and maybe that's in part because I have been so positive about the surgery being the best thing for me and a great step forward in getting healthy and fit.

i decided to keep my circle of people small - it really is a personal decision - you will know what is the right thing to say. Just be comfortable with it

Once I was approved I told everyone it happened to come up with. My co workers would have noticed me gone for a month (yes I took a month off) and would have just called and asked if I was okay anyone. Enough people know that I don't need to explain repeatedly anymore. Who cares who knows. The weight loss will be obvious.

I'm in the same boat. I had my surgery on Tuesday and only told 5 people. My mother doesn't know. My family is in Chicago and I live in Dallas. I know my coworkers will start asking questions and I haven't decided how to respond. I don't know if I'm embarrassed or just being silly. I know we shouldn't care what other people think or say about us but deep down inside I care. No one wants to be talked about behind their backs. I'm going to tell my mom this weekend and slowly decide when or if I tell my coworkers. I know this sounds strange but I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one that's experiencing this. I'm so glad I found this site!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
