Susan, I laughed at your comment about the dogs and the guy! I only have small dogs (one 12 lb, one 6 lb) and yet they manage to take up 3/4 of a queen size bed. And still kick me, step on me, scratch me. But I wouldn't give them up for the world! I love the fact that they don't care what I look like-they just love me. Oh, if we could all love like dogs. LOL

I guess for me, I just assume that if a man likes me skinny, they would not have liked me heavier. It's sad, but we are a visual society and let's face it, when they put 14 year old girls on the cover of a magazine to suggest we all look like that as mature women, there is something twisted. I always tell people to really look at women's magazines-I don't care if it's Cosmo or Family Circle-you are going to see at least 1 of 3 things; how to lose weight quickly; how to do something that pleases a man; how to firm up some part of your body. Gee, why would we be weight obsessed as a society? Ever look at a men's magazine? Most don't have articles like that (and some don't even have articles-LOL).

I have had several guys tell me they'd like me if I lost weight-I tell them I wouldn't want them fat or skinny. They certainly aren't good enough for me when they make comments like that. And trust me, these guys weren't all that to begin with. What I find funny is the double standard-it's more acceptable for a guy to be 20-40 lbs overweight, but not a woman. I actually had a guy who was bigger than I am tell me that I was too fat for him! Wow, lost a winner there. I probably sound like a man-hater-really, I'm not. I'm just sick of the double standards. I think it's time us women took over the world-after all there are more of us than them. LOL

Now that I have lost 102 pounds, I have the same guys who wouldn't give me the time of day when I was a size 22/24, now want to go out with me....and my answer? Screw them! If they didn't want me for me then just because I was heavy, but now I am ok to date cause I am thin? I don't want them. They didn't want me for me then and I sure don't want them now!!!

I don't want to hijack this thread so I am starting another thread about this in the Lap Band Forum. I am really interested in everyone's responses about this:

Is someone of poor character if they didn't ask you out when you were heavy but they do when you are thin? If so, why? Is it insulting? If so, why?

I don't expect a man to ask me out if he isn't attracted to me physically. I don't think that a man who is not attracted to heavy people is a bad person....

To me that is totally different than if I gained weight while dating someone seriously. If I was in a serious relationship and I gained weight I would expect that person not to dump me. If they did dump me then I would think they had poor character and I would be insulted.

Anyway, back to being a single bandster... or in my case a single bandster to be!

Susan I don't think your questions would have hijacked this thread at all. The thread is for discussing issues that us single bandsters face, and those certainly are issues we have to deal with.

I will visit and post in the other thread you posted though, becuase I think it is an interesting topic.

okay I haven't posted in a bit, I have been getting used to myself since the fill. It sure is different. I had .5cc before, they added another cc. I have a 4 cc band. Boya, can I feel restriction now!! I am truly a 4-6 oz girl now. I am going to be flashing that card so I can get a kids meal now. I don't think I can do chicken anymore, darn. I love chicken!!!:faint::faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint:

I will definitely be down under 200 by Christmas. I have lost 4 lbs since my fill on Tuesday, I know, I know, I shouldn't be losing that fast, but I can't eat! well, not much. I am going to HAVE to start weight training, my arms look like those flying monkey wings! I think I could takeoff with themLOL!

Okay, this is my opinion, and I know my opinion changes all the time, but right now this is what I think about the guys who like us thin, but not when we were big. Men are visual creatures. They must be attracted to something to pursue it, they will get to know it later. Like their cars, or trucks. Men love those sleek, fast, beautiful sport cars, or the big 4 wheel drive duallys. ImagineTim the Toolman Taylor:D and what his response would be when he sees a hot rod. They are attracted to the lines, the curves of the vehicle. They get to know how she handles in the rain, and how loud her radio is, or if she has heated seats, or real defog, or god forbid global navigation systems after they have made the purchase. They don't want a station wagon. I know this may not be a good analogy of the mind of men, but its how I imagine them.

Anyway, I wouldn't have dated men who were bigger than me, because I wasn't attracted to them. There has to be attraction, or it will never work. I am not saying it's right, but it's how it is. I am going to have to get used to it. As for the men I know, who may want to date me after I lose weight? No way. But for other men who didn't know me when I was overweight? Sure, because they had no option to turn me down before. I know... it sounds warped.

This is MY opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own........

I hear what you're saying Kristi. I know what I'm attracted to, and it's not always an overweight guy - not on first impressions anyway. I know I'm not shallow, so I'd like to think the guys aren't either.

Missy,

You are just being truthful! I look at em too. I do (please don't tell anyone"gulp") mammograms, and CTs, Xrays, I guess that tells you what sortof work I do. But it's so funny, I look at womens chests all the time, thinking if they would be hard to do, easy etc. If I see a woman with BIG bosoms, I am thinking to myself, OMG, someone has to image those! And now I am doing venipuncture, so I always look at people's veins, and when I see a big juicy one, I want to plop a needle right in there!! Gross, I know. I think the medical field has warped me. But I love mens butts!! Legs are nice, too, and I adore nice big shoulders! I think we have scared all the men away from our singles thread by now. Sorry

KristiB,

I totally understand what you mean. I also like to look at the back side and I think George Strait has the best one I've seen in his tight Wranglers. LOL But, I think you're right about the analogy you used. Men like to have someone on their arm who they WANT to be seen with no matter what kind of character she has. In other words, they want a trophy girlfriend or wife, no matter what the guy looks like. They tend to look first and ask questions later, if that makes sense. That's been my experience anyway. So, I don't think they are necessarily of bad character if they aren't interested in me heavy. No other man has been interested in a long time, so why should they be? It's just the reality of our society unfortunately. Do I think it's ok for them to feel this way? Absolutely not, but that's just the way it works. I know I will have a much better chance of finding my ideal man after I get skinny, but I guess that's ok to. I am not particularly interested in men who are as much over weight as I am, so I shouldn't expect them to be interested in me either.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Holidays! I enjoyed them a bit too much, to the tune of 2 lbs gained. Ugh! Oh well, time to dust myself off and get back on track. :)

So does anyone have any fun plans for New Year's? I was going to try and go out that night, but I just found out that I'll be moving on the 6th of January so I think I'm going to spend it packing. Sad, huh? lol. But I'm ok with it because I'm really looking forward to 2007. This is going to be a wonderful year for all of us!

Woo hoo! Glad I am not the only one who gained weight over the holiday. I only gained 2 lbs, but still!! I had to go back to Dallas to have an unfill. I couldn't stand it anymore, every time I ate I hurt so bad! But now that my body has gotten used to it, I think I could use that fill back. Maybe I was eating too fast or not chewing enough.

So I have 1.8 cc in my 4 cc band, I am still at 205, but I had gotten to 202, or 203, so I am bummed. But, I am starting working out tomorrow night, so hopefully it will start again. I got an ipod to work out with, so I will have some motivation, from "bringin sexy back!" You HAve TO lose weight working out to that one!!

Hope every one comes back soon, I am bored!!

Ok, so far I have done very poorly at consistantly exercising. I know, its a cliche but beginning with the new year.....I am starting over.

I have had a gym membership for over a year, pay for it every month and had not been for over 4 months.

Yesterday, I went back, and walked for about 10 minutes on the treadmill, and about 5 minutes on the elliptical. I thought I was dying!!

But I am going back today. Wish me luck.

......goal 30 solid minutes on the treadmill, at a very brisk run/walk....3-5 times per week by Valentines day. I don't think thats too unrealistic. Maybe even a bit under what I should make as goal.

Gonna try........ :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
