A thread for Single Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm 28, single and living in Salt Lake City. I have to agree with what a lot of you are saying. I don't date, and I do think my weight has a lot to do with it, but mostly because I'm not comfortable with myself.

I have an appointment to be banded on Jan 11th and haven't told anyone... still trying to decide if I should :girl_hug:

Wow Cathy! After 36 Yrs He Shows Back Up In Your Life! That Is Unreal! How Does He Look After So Many Years? For This Man To Go To The Trouble To Look You Up And Remember All About You Is Great. Don't Let The Cancer Keep You Away! He Is Working To Fight It And It Will Happen. I Know You Are Not Confident About Yourself As Of Yet, But He Has Seen You And Still Is Coming Back In Two Weeks. Just Take It Slow And See If Those Old Feeling Might Just Come Back. In Time Being With Someone Will Become A Little Easier. (at Least I Think It Should) Its Like Old Friends Getting To Know Each Other Again. A Lot Of Talking And Laughing. I Wish Someone From My Past Would Look Me Up!!!

Thanks Ladydi,

I have been working on myself so much it seems to be paying off. I got up all my courage and wrote my old flame an email, just saying life is too short, so I'll tell you what I'm feeling. If you want to take it further, I'm game. He spent the entire day composing the most beautiful response, and that's just what we're going to do. If it doesn't work out, at least I've made a huge leap forward.

Fingers crossed,

I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread where we could discuss the different challenges/issues we face as being single and banded.

I'll start with introducing myself. My name is Chris, I am 32 and live in a suburb of Boston. About a year ago I got out of a 5 year relationship and have just casually dated (online dating) since then. I have decided to take a break from dating for a bit, so I can focus on myself and adjust to living life as a bandster. (I was just banded on 10/2). One of my biggest concerns when I start dating again is if/when to tell that I am banded. It's not that I don't want to tell people, it's just that my idea of great dinner conversation does not include discussing my weight. Overall I would say that I have a great life. I have a good job, a very supportive family, and lots of friends. I am happy to be taking control over my weight and issues with food, and am excited at the prospect of my future as a not-so-fat woman.

I look forward to meeting more single bandsters and hope this thread takes off!

Chris :cocktail:

Heh there! I am single and have about 1/2 my weight off. It has been a little slower than I expected but I am hangin' in there. I am 47 and live in the midwest.

I know there are banded men but most in my support group are married.

I think when you get to be my age the good men are all gone. ;)

Where are you guys?

Kayford,

I know exactly what your talking about, I hear those same dogs barking girl!!

I have been single many years, have not really dated. And EVERYONE in my age group/peer group and in my circle of friends, family and aquaintances is married.

I have been a fifth wheel for so long, its hard (for me anyway), not to be discouraged. But I have hope.....

oh Kristi girl you are BAD!!! LMAO!

Good for you Cathgr8! I'm glad you took that leap of faith, and I hope it works out. And if not, you will never wonder 'what if'. Good for you!

So this weekend I went out with a couple friends to a bar, and engaged in the most searing eye contact with a major hottie. I couldn't believe he was looking back! lol. Totally out of my league but I got such a rush from the eye contact. Alas my friends wanted to leave early, so we did. Maybe next time I'll bring new friends! lol

We're here...

Oh goodie. WE got a M-A-N to respond !!

So tell us something Harlito, are you looking for that special woman? At 36 you might be a little young for me. I am however, one cool chic for 47 y.o. I must admit I am a lot of fun.

I have never done the internet dating thing as I figured I might end up "pickled" in some barrel in KC by some guy as nutty as John E Robinson.

I trust a fellow bandster to be a upstanding guy.

Tell us more about yourself.

Like your name Harlito. Give us the background on yourself.

Kay

My last date was with a guy that picked me up in a BUG truck. He was an exterminator. Nice guy just not on my same intellectual level. I got home from the date and caught my girlfriends heading out to a club and said "pick me up".

It seems like we get set in our ways and then what there is to pick from is either damaged or a loser.

They say there is someone for each of us. Well where the hell are they?

I have noticed them checking out my butt. It is kinda fun.

It took my family a long time to say anything and now they say you are lookin' good.

Chris,

Yes I am bad. I told you, its the hormones. JK everyone! :faint:

Cathy, you go girl! I am still afraid of making the eye contact too much, but I have been strutting my stuff around JUST a bit. Okay, so he's back in 13 days, right? Can someone make us a ticker for that?

I am so mad, though, I am losing my boobs! Why can't the butt go first?

Missy, hang in there. One of these days you will be in on that circle of married gals, and you'll be looking so good, and having so many men chasing you, you'll wonder why you wanted to get married anyway.

Kay, good thinking! Ask the man to make more than the small talk with us. Harlito is 36? He's in my age range.

Harllito, I am just kidding with you!! I promise I am not a stalker!

Jdru, work up the courage, make that eye contact, and talk to someone for me, cause I am still too shy. Come back and tell us how it went!!

Okay, a funny story. I have to get allergy shots. I was on the phone talking to someone I hadn't seen in a while, and walked into the waiting room of the clinic. You have to go around a wall, so you can't see anyone in there until you are actually IN the room. Well, I was talking, yapping, flapping my jowls, and asked my friend if she "knows any single guys, cause I am on the prowl, yes, I am" just as I walked into the waiting room, and there were 6 or 7 men around my age in there waiting for their shots. They heard every word I was saying!! Several of them smiled, I was so embarrassed. Its usu. only older people when I go in, so imagine my shock, walking into a ROOM full of men! I thought I had died and gone to heaven. No, not really, but it sounded good.

Well, if I have forgotten anyone, I am sorry, I will get back to you next time.

Kristi

I'm 20 years old and single. Unfortunately, in my case, at least, being overweight brings your confidence down to the point where it practically vanishes... For my entire life, I've had to watch my siblings (one older brother, one younger brother, and one younger sister) get dates with ease, but, even if I had the chance, I rarely took them due to my lack in self-confidence.

Hopefully that'll change as I lose weight, and I'll start getting some attention from the ladies! lol.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
