Good evening everyone, next week Tuesday (might I add its the day after my b-day) I will be having my surgery. I was notified of my date last week Thursday and I said I was gonna start my Protein Shakes as of Sunday that just passed and I have yet to dj it because they taste so horribly horrible but that was before I knew the seriousness of needing my liver to shrink. I guess because I've been battling get the surgery for 3 years and finally decided to do it due to graves disease (hyper thyroid disease), hypertension, Migraines, gerd and most of all an enlarged heart I choose to live but it's not an easy road and I am glad to have found this forum...so if anyone has any suggestions on Protein shakes that aren't so bad I would greatly appreciate it :)

Hi! If you go to the " food and nutrition" part of this forum then go on the " Protein drinks and powders" there will be lots of advice!!

As for me I drink ready made Premier Protein shakes you can buy them at costco or SAMs club

Oh and start now you've waited so long you wouldn't want to mess it up now :)

Good luck,

Laura

I use the GNC pro performance AMP chocolate powder (amplified wheybolic extreme 60) mixed with skim milk and it really does taste like chocolate milk. I DO 2 scoops to about 8-10 ounces of skim milk (I was doing half skim and half Water but it depends on how I feel). Each scoop has 20 grams of Protein. Three scoops has 280 calories. I bought the small bag first and if you do not like it, GNC will take it back. I also drink the Isopure clear Protein Drinks but some flavors are terrible. I drink the grape (tastes like weak koolaide). And the pineapple-orange-banana. But they are best super cold over ice and if you are preop and allowed to use straws they are not so bad. Each 20 ounce bottle has 40 grams of protein. These too are available at GNC. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

I drink the EAS Advantage chocolate shakes that you can get at Walmart or some supermarkets. They also come in Mocha, strawberry and vanilla. They have 3 different kinds, with 3 different levels of Protein. One is 17 g, one is 20 and the other is 42g. The 42 g of Protein shake is very thick. They taste quite good.

You can also mix it in a blender with crushed ice and make it the consistency of a frosty. Another trick I learned when I tried Optifast a while ago is you can take some Diet soda.. Cola, Cream, Orange,Root beer, Grape etc.. whatever you like and mix it with the vanilla flavors with a blender. They actually aren't too bad that way either and gives it a much better taste. DO NOT use regular soda. You can also use some flavoring like Vanilla extract (they have all kinds of flavors such as rootbeer, raspberry, strawberry etc.) to mix into a vanilla shake.< /p>

There are also tons of shake recipies on the forum under nutrition.

Good luck, you will get them down! Think of your end goal.. Your health! :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
