Today i found out that i streched my pouch

Recommended Posts

I just checked my surgeon/hospital. They are a

CENTER OF EXCELLENCE by the Surgical Review Corporation and the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

I may not have spent enough time reading around the site, but this organization does not appear to be a club you join for a title that you then pay membership dues to hang on to. This would be an interesting thread on its own.

I'm not sure what you're saying delta...did you see the fee section at the end of that COE link? They do pay to belong.

So sick of this thread !

This thread doesn't really have much to do with the OP anymore. I'm fine with reading around the comments and chatting about other things :-)

Most places and professions can claim/use a multitude of titles to impress society, but it doesn't make them any better than the next person/place that doesn't use the title.

I have a PhD, but have never EVER and never will claim the Dr title. It doesn't make me more qualified or others less qualified. It's just a title.

LOL My brother is also a PhD but he only makes his siblings call him Doctor heh heh

My botched care came from a COE. The nifty title didn't do much to get me great care. I don't even know if the surgeon who saved me eventually is a COE doc. I didn't care...I knew it didn't mean much.

I just want to say this "IF" she is taking in all that Protein she claims "IF" it is possible to gain the weight ONLY if she is using a weight gainer formula Protein Drink. Some weight gainers have as much as 1800-2000 calories per serving. But I was sleeved on 1/7/13 I'm down about 25 post op and I can eat. I eat more than I see people posting here. I can eat almost a full 18 ounces of Soup at a time but can only handle 2 eggs with a slice of turkey ham and 1 slice of cheese. I've been reading this blog since it was started and been researching this non stop and it is physically impossible for this to happen if she was sleeved. It just can't happen in that short of a time period and even more so for someone to gain 20 pounds in 7 weeks is a ton of weight in a short period as well. Something is very fishy about this blog.

I feel the same way. I can eat a lot too. I think we all have different hunger and capacities after we are sleeved. I would love to be one of those people that is never hungry and who can hardly get 1 egg down. I sometimes feel as though I wasn't sleeved either. If I really wanted to I could eat horrible fatty foods and gain weight too. I'm just choosing not too. I didn't eat anything more than a few sips of broth in the hospital but by the 5th day I was really hungy all the time and still am. I'm 2 weeks out only. I do understand the people who say they are not satisfied with only 4 oz of food but I stop myself at 4oz so I don't gain weight.

LOL! My husband is a PhD and only his mother addresses him as Dr. (addresses him as in sending him something in the mail). We always get a kick out of it.

Oh yeah, I forgot ...his students do as well.

I am sorry to hear about your trouble with your sleeve. I would DEFINITELY go to anothe physician. Seems like that one really messed up. Good luck to you I am sure you will find someone good and then make the other one pay for it! You may need to venture out of your immediate area since all the bariatric surgeons probably know each other.

Then why do you continue to post and review it? If it's bothering you' date=' and not providing you with value, and excellent way to deal with that frustration is to skip it and read something you do value. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

I don't review , it pops up every time someone posts a comment

I wonder does having a low BMI at the time of surgery, have any effect on how much you can eat post surgery? I've been noticing that many folks with a higher BMI seem to be able to eat more, but those with lower BMI's seem to be struggling to get their Protein and Water in. Could be just my imagination. Anybody else have an opinion about this?

Yeah..... I don't really think it makes a difference,

Everybody has different experiences with restriction. my restriction is different day by day. Somedays it's a struggle to consume and others its quite easy.

But perhaps some of those that did this for "preventive measures" would like to comment also?

Preventative measures heh heh I'm fully willing to call it a vanity surgery :) So, here's my take on it...which has no...well a tiny medical basis, but not much. I happened to be chatting with mom about this today oddly enough. Stomachs are different sizes. A bigger person (and by bigger I mean taller and larger or one of the other) has a bigger stomach than a smaller person. A six foot man with a large frame is going to have a different sized stomach even after sleeve than I do at 5' on a petite frame. Yes we both have limited abilities now with the sleeve, but his limits are not the same as mine. In addition, I have never in my life sat down and completed a meal of two eggs, bacon and hash browns (typical Breakfast out) where as some can eat six eggs, etc. On a shear portion value alone they are used to eating way more than I did so a smaller amount for them might be still impossible for me.

Someone here was saying they eat an egg, two sausage and a piece of toast a few days ago. I can't eat more than an egg and maybe a bite of toast. She was complaining about how little that was...I was shocked she could eat it. Perhaps (likely so) she really does have that much larger of a stomach than I do? Could all of those years have added up to that or was it natural? Who knows, but we obviously have different stomach sizes even after the sleeve.

I also won't eat until I vomit. I know many folks eat as much as they can and stop at slimes. They are teaching their stomach muscle (the sleeve) to allow this by pushing it early out. SO that would be a factor as well. I have vomited once and it was caused by a medical issue not by overdoing it.

I'm not perfect :) So don't read that into this LOL I got fat drinking wine and eating wonderful steak, a salad, a side, an appetizer, etc....sure not all of it, but a lot more than I needed. People often are surprised I have a weight issue given how little I eat...but I just eat more often (snacks of the devil) so I think my capacity at a meal is definitely not the same as someone else, sleeved or not sleeved.

I'm going out for wine and apps...I'll see what I can fit in and get back with ya'll LOL

My personal observation about restriction...

As long as I am drinking a Protein Shake or something gooey or liquidity it takes me a while to feel any restriction. I know when I've had enough when I just don't "feel" like eating anymore. Almost like, ok, I'm done with this or it just suddenly isn't appetizing anymore.

But, when I eat dense Protein, I almost immediately hit a brick wall (stomach!). With just a few bites I am miserable. I have no choice but to stop or it feels like a heart attack!

Now to the question about lower BMIs having smaller sleeves... It is my understanding that they use a bougie to measure, which would mean that the sleeve sizes would not be drastically different, right? Maybe they give guys a little bigger sleeve than women, I don't know.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
