Impact on social life

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Has anyone see an impact on their social life? I'm 28 and single and I enjoy the nightlife a lot. I go out for drinks with my girlfriends at least once a week. I know post OP I shouldn't have a drink for at least 3 months. But has anyone noticed a negative impact?

I found it extremely difficult to eat out with my friends on the beginning but you'll come up with a routine that'll suit your life and social one as well.

Now that I can have food, I don't find eating difficult. However, I was never a nightlife person so I still sit at home with Netflix and instead of a bag of popcorn I have Jello or Water or something. I find I have a lot of free time. Apparently all I ever did was eat.

i am also curious about this. i am only 23 and recently graduated college. i don't drink often anymore. but once i am well enough, i am hoping to be able to go out about 2x a month. i am wondering how post op patients handle alcohol and if you are able to get drunk. sounds bad, but once in a while, it's fun to let loose with friends i haven't seen in a while!

Because its hard to time yourself with others while their eating. It's just extremely hard to watch and I just had to get over. As for going drinking your tolerance is going to change and your body may react differently to the drink. I would try your favorite drink at home first and then see how it effects you. It's not a complete struggle but it des tale time.

a lot of my social life and enjoyment with family and friends involves eating--not just eating out but eating at their houses and at parties/events...I live in south La., and we love our food...I am also from a large Italian family that loves to eat...I already know that my social life is very likely to be significantly altered...it is one of those areas of my life where I probably should make some changes anyway--as difficult as that will be

cant imagine it having a negative impact on someone single, unless you have friends hating on your newfound slim; in that case they are not truely friends.....best of luck to you????

No negative impact for me .... more positive!! I'm 25 and like you enjoy a few drinks with friends often! I had my first glass of wine 7 weeks PO. Now 3 months out I have the ability to drink the same as I did before (my tolerance has not changed unfortunately - I was keen to be a cheap date)!!! With that being said I'm putting the drinking on hold for a while (except special occasions e.g. weddings, birthdays etc.) as I am committed to making the most out of the first 6 months.

Now I am 55lbs down and 25kg lighter I have a lot of compliments coming my way and I love dressing up to go out! I have so much more confidence hence only positives for me!! :) also dinners and restaurants etc I either order a Soup or a salad and no-one seems to notice how little I do eat!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
