I was self pay and agree it was worth every cent at just under 3 months out. For those of you that were self pay - I am curious to see the difference in rates in different countries. I am in New Zealand and mine was just over 14K USD. That includes compulsory surgeon and NUT consultations for up to 2 years. Curious to see how much they charge in Asia, UAE, and of course the controversial Mexico!!

I'm in Southern California which is pricey. Quoted 18,500 from a very highly respected surgeon and then 21,500 for band sleeve conversion (both cash prices). It does include support groups.

Mexico seems all over between 4k to 11k depending on facilities and accreditation.

I paid $4,500 in TJ Mexico...most of it came from my tax free 125 flex spending account. No pre-visit hoops and no after care but I'm doing great almost 5 months out.

Went to las Vegas. Cash price was 10.4k. It was outpatient surgery, however I had to stay in a motel from thursday to Monday. Drove there and back. All together 12k.

I went to TJ, Mexico. $5000 all said and done. I flew on airmiles and used my husbands rewards points for one night in a hotel.

I'm in Louisiana. Decided to go self pay route instead of jumping through my insurance company's hoops ( 8 years ago I did six months of hoops, and they denied me anyway ). My fee was 14000, and it included the surgeon, hospital with overnight stay, nutritional consults for a year, follow up with surgeon for 2 years, ad BLIS insurance. Money well spent.

I paid 15,000 in Houston. That included everything and 1 year follow up. I'm only 2 days out but I know I couldn't do it by myself so it was money well spent.

Man, I live in the wrong place! If it would have been within $5k I would have stayed with my local surgeon. When you hit more than $10k difference I seriously began researching Mexico!

$5500 in Mexico (Dr. jaime Ponce de leon in Tijuana) and I got great care. I think the good mex. docs are better than the US ones b/c they have done so many more (sleeve has been done for much longer there) so they are more experienced with the procedure and possible complications. My sister (she is a doctor herself) was dead against it, but after meeting the team there changed her mind completely.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
