HELP! I'm seriously freaked out. I had surgery on January 9th and have been on Clear liquids. Everything has been perfect so far - no excessive nausea, heartburn, or gas. I thought things were going so well. Until today - I started my first day of full liquids. I had a sugar free fudge pop last night over the course of about 5 minutes and about 5-10 minutes later it came out of the other end (sorry!). I thought maybe it was a fluke. Well this morning I had my first full liquid Protein shake since surgery (I'm enjoying the pre-made GNC Lean shake which is lactose free). I sipped it over an hour. I thought things were going well, but then the same thing happened - about 5-10 minutes after I took my last sip my stomach started gurgling and I had to go to the bathroom again. I was a tiny bit nauseous but that passed quickly thankfully.

I'm terrified that this will always happen and I'm doomed - this can't happen forever! Since it isn't a lactose problem I'm really worried. Did this happen to anyone and did it go away???? I go back to work next Wednesday and this might pose a problem if I need an hour and a half to drink a Protein Shake and go to the bathroom every time..... !!!!!!!!!!!!

I was sleeved on the 9th also and the only problems I've had are with a little diarrhea. I've been told the sugar alcohols in sugar free fudgecicles and Popsicles can give you diarrhea. You may be eating too fast or your sips need to be slower. I had to be really careful at first now I can take bigger sips.I haven't had any nausea

its normal...liquids in= liquids out... when you move up to more dense Proteins, you will long for the days of easier movements.....

It's pretty normal for all of us on the liquid stage.

It goes away when then you will most likely have the opposite problem..

But the last poster has a good point about the sugar alcohols not helping.

OK - so this is pretty normal?? Would it help if I made my own Protein shakes instead of using the pre-made ones? Could they contain sugar alcohol?

I would look at the label it will say if it does. But it just happens it will go away soon. When does your diet allow you to have purée type foods?

Next week! Week 3 is purees and Week 4 is soft foods. Thanks so much for your help!

Try a different brand.

It gets better, but what you experienced is common.

Here is a tip, don't get crazy with adding Peanut Butter to chocolate Protein shakes when you are very early out. I thought I might die.....

I returned to work three weeks after my procedure. For me, it took my body just about the entire three weeks to return to 'normal'. I know we are all different and our systems will adapt 'in time' to our new tummies. I would make sure you are drinking all of your liquids to avoid dehydration and make sure you consume your Protein in whatever form you are currently at. Speak to your doctor and/or nutritionist if you are not and see what they say. Good luck! :)

I am two weeks today.....my first encounter with a Protein Shake, within minutes I was running to the toilet. The next 2 or 3 try's got much better. I can now tolerate most all full liquids.

I just tried PB powdered to my shake and the first couple times it was ok but today it gave me a lump in my throat! This is what full feels like!!

Personally I like the Popsicles because of them I have not been constipated!! something to think about!!

Believe me,its not only the shakes, because I dont drink shakes of any kind, before or after surgery.even ones from fast food rest. I never drank, but because you are on fluids only, thats all thats gonna leave your body. Like someone else said, liquid in,liquid out

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
