Hello..I am March 6th as well :). What kind of pre op diet are you on..I am just curious because everyone seems to have something different.. I am 3 weeks of liquids..and its tough..but the prize at the end is worth it..good luck to you

Ouch 3 weeks of liquid that must be rough. I have to do 2 weeks of a liquid diet and my surgery date is also March 6th. So nervous. I keep having dreams that when my surgery date is here I just forget to go or dont make it on time. I am wondering if this is my minds way of telling me I shouldnt do it or its just nerves. I want it more then anything. I have done this good so far. I am young and have young babies. I want to live a long and healthy life for not just myself but for them as well.

Hi Everybody,

Well, today is my 61st birthday and I am starting day 4 of the liquid. I am really struggling and trying to figure out how I can make it 8 more days. In fact, I had to break by having a banana last night. I was so hungry and just had to have it. It definitely helped and I will continue from here. I beat myself up over it, but it was just that I had to have something and I figured a banana was better than something else. I have lost 5 lbs these last four days so I know things are going well. I am back on it and will continue without beating myself up. That damn head hunger is definitely beating me up.

Anyway, I plan to have a good day and not go out to dinner with hubby or have any cake. It will be a difficult birthday for sure, but I keep thinking about next year. I have a lot to keep my mind occupied all day with church, rehersals and a play audition so I should be ok. Have a great and healthy day everyone.

Happy Birthday and keep up with your good work. I am on my 5th day out of 14 for the liquid diet requirement and it has been so hard. But we can do this. I just keep the end result at the top of my head. You dont need food to Celebrate life is what I am telling myself. My birthday is March 13th so I am considering this surgery as an early birthday present for myself :) Good luck and keep up the good work. Have a wonderful birthday!

Krissj,

Just try to remember that the surgeons give us a preop diet because it makes for a safer surgery, not just to make us miserable. If it weren't an elective procedure we would still have a preop diet. Hand in there!

Ok for all those struggling w/ the pre-op diet I have a tiny suggestion that MAY help a little. If you can (if your surgeon allows it, I would call to double check but I don't see why it wouldn't be ok) try adding some chia seeds to your Protein Shakes. Besides having lots of other great benefits, they absorb Water so when they get to your stomach they help make you feel full and for longer amounts of time. I have been putting them in my Protein smoothies. They REALLY do make me fell full pretty quickly. I can have a smoothie at lunch w/ them in it and I'm not full again until supper time. Post-op they can be helpful b/c they help keep you hydrated (I guess b/c they absorb water and it's released into the body as they're digested? Just a guess). Anyway, check w/ your Dr to make sure they're allowed :D

Actually' date=' Pepper Paul, now that I've gone back through all 27 pages of this thread, and looked at your posting history on your profile, to see how I could have missed your post, I see that you haven't made any prior posts in this thread, so I didn't actually miss anything. And not sure how I was expected to know about you? I don't comb the entire site looking for March dates, only the people who have posted a firm (not tentative) date on THIS thread have been included on the list.

[/quote']

Yep, you're absolutely right! I looked back at my post history and saw that I posted in a thread that was titles "March Sleevers" and this one is titles "Any March Sleevers". I thought I was going crazy because I combed through this thread first and couldn't find my post anywhere!

At any rate I was joking around, and I apologize if it offended you, that wasn't my intention. With as many March sleevers as there are, even if I ~had~ posted in this thread it would be easy to miss a name. I appreciate that you put together the list. It's cool to look and see who else is on and around my date.

Now if you could work on that mind reading trick so we don't have this problem in the future that would be terrific. (Sorry, couldn't help myself!) :)

No problem Paul, I just thought I was going crazy that I didn't see it. I should probably go through that other thread also, and add any names from that one to the list, but I'm about to leave for my EGD, and have my cardiac stress test tomorrow, so not sure I'll have the time.

I'll try to do better on the mind reading from now on, I promise!

Such a normal thing! I used to dream like that whenever I'd start a new year in school, or even get a new job. As far as pre-surgery dreams... the worst one I've had, Is when I dreamed I was just sleeved and still in the hospital and I pulled out fried chicken legs from inside my pillow case and started eating them. Then I remembered my doc was coming down to do the leak test so I was trying to stall him so he wouldn't see my belly full of fried chicken... I think it is just my minds way of releasing anxiety I have about the surgery. I honestly don't feel anxious, but apparently I am on a subconscious level! .... and it means I love friend chicken and haven't had it in a very VERY long time!

Tomorrow is my last appt: pre anasteisia testing. I got for a preop appt on the 5th but that is a formality and to get my vitamins... My only issues is that I have not been able to get my shakes yet. They r gonna cost me about 100-150$$ I have been waiting for my tax money to come in. My house finances are very tight so every penny goes to bills then we deal with food... That makes me nervous. I do have EAS shakes that I can make and drink as a substitute. It does not have the higher Protein that my doc wants but it will have to do until Uncle Sam pays me my money.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
