HELP! I feel like I'm cheating!

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow sleevers,

So I just finished my first week post-op. My doctor only required 1 week liquids post-op then moving to blended foods then to soft foods.

We're allowed egg beaters/egg whites, grits, crackers in Soup, tuna, lean deli meat, low fat cheeses among other things in this stage.

Today was the first day tasting something that wasn't liquid and I'm kind of freaking out!

Breakfast was 2 oz egg beaters w 1/4 c grits

lunch was 2 oz lean deli meat (chicken and roast beef as allowed) and less than 1 oz string cheese

dinner has not been determined yet.

I'm scared of the options, I'm scared to eat the wrong things and the surgery not be successful for me. I've messed up so many times in the past that this eating (though not nearly like it was before the surgery) is totally messing with me.

The calories are still really low, carbs really low, fat next to none, but still... *sigh*

Did anyone else go through this? Am I going to be ok? HELP!!

I'd try to focus on the Protein over the grits and crackers. Just make sure to eat slow when trying new foods...I didn't have any problems. If you find something bothers your tummy, stop and try again in a few days. Try to find your tell that you're full; I get a pain and then start burping. When I get that...I stop eating. You should only be able to hold 1/4c. if even that right now. Good luck, and enjoy.

You're fine! I agree with Traci J, though. For at least the first few months, I'd eliminate pretty much all carbs except for milk and cheese products. You'll eventually get to the point where you can add some crackers or cereals into your plan, but right now all they will do is fill you up and probably make you feel bad.

Last month (I'm almost five months out) I started upping my carb intake a bit. I was in a stall and that kick started my loss again.

This is a learning process. You'll probably make some mistakes and suffer the consequences. But eventually, you'll be able to tell right away how much food you need to put on your plate and what works best for you. It's tough to completely mess up your sleeve. Just stay focused and contact your surgeon or nutritionist with any specific questions.

Good luck!

I think that grits or cream of wheat are in your plan you can have a little and be ok! Just do Protein first.. I was able to have mashed potatoes and in the soft stage they were easy on my tummy...

Now though I stay away because I'm trying to do mostly protein

I am focusing more on the Protein I simply listed what was allowed. I did have grits but only got through about half of a 1/4 cup of that since I ate the eggs first. lunch was all protein and dinner will be mostly protein with creamed broccoli. But thanks everybody!!! I feel a little better :-)

See my doctor said I can do 3-4 unsalted crackers soaked in Soup first. So I'm not really sure if dry is ok. I would assume that if it goes down fine you're ok but I'd advise talking to the doctor or nutritionist to be sure.

Thanks for all your advice, I appreciate it. And I honestly don't do enough of any of that. It seems so hard trying to keep up with all the small meals and all the drinking. But I'm going to get it together and get it right. I've only been hitting the gym 3-4 times a week. I'm going to try more. Thanks again for the advice

Lol...don't be nervous. I was out in one day. Just remember to walk. It helps with the gas. The post op pain will probably only last a week. Don't worry, you will do fine.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
