I've lost approx 84 lbs, depending on the day. When I initially started this process, 34 months ago, I was hoping to lose 60 lbs, forever. I'd lost 50 lbs three times previously and promptly gained it back and then some. I knew I would be on this roller coaster for the rest of my life. I struggled to maintain around 225, give or take ten lbs. After watching a friend have WLS a few years earlier, and living to tell about and living to talk to me about following suit, I did it! 31 months ago, I took the plunge. When I got to 170, I was thrilled beyond belief, and it happened so quickly and I KNEW I could go lower. My physician's goal was 150, I think their goal is always right there at a healthy BMI. Once I saw what was possible with sleeve surgery, I wanted to go 5 lbs lower than his goal. I did that and kept going. I couldn't quit, or so it seemed. My dietitian told me to add a snack or two. I needed to up my calories. So I did, grazing is what I do best. :) I eat three small meals a day and several Snacks. I am not snacking on bon bons, but I do have a jr. ice cream at Braum's just not often. I like Snackwell's Cookies, low fat graham crackers with Natural Peanut Butter on them.....I was able to re-gain about 10 lbs to get to a weight that is easy for me to maintain and a weight where I don't look like I'm sick. I feel good, and find it easy to stay between 144 and 148. Why did I do this....because I was 50 and I knew that it was going to be harder and harder to lose weight and as my PCP said, almost impossible to keep it off without eating nothing but grass and weeds. Following through was by far, the best decision I've EVER made FOR ME, aside from marrying my husband. I love shopping, I feel good about myself, sex is better than ever. I may not have been morbidly obese, but no matter where you are on the scale, if you are on the heavy side, the feelings are the same. My BMI was right at 36 and now it's just under 23. I wouldn't change a thing!

Why did you have surgery if you are under 200 pounds.? I don't understand. And instead of being ignorant can you fits help me understand...I getting down to 180-190 is all I think about...but that is my perspective because I am morbidly obese ..but why risk this for 50 pounds or so?..no judgement just curious. I just don't get it.

I guess the best way to describe the reasoning for some people is as a preventative measure. That horrible struggle that you, I, and many others face with the morbid obesity isn't something I would wish on my worst enemy- so for someone who can stop that from happening - which, for many, it's inevitable, more power to them. Why wait for something to be so bad that its hardest and more dangerous!? If you have a toothache, you don't wait for the tooth to abscess before dealing with it. Or at least you shouldn't!

Preventive maintainence, that is EXACTLY what I've told people. My paternal grandmother and all my aunts on my dad's side of the family were heavy, much heavier than I was when I had surgery, but I envisioned myself at 300+ lbs twenty years from now and I didn't like it at all. I had NO health issues, yet. I'm hoping I have prevented any of those that my aunts and many cousins have experienced.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
