Pro-op diet crankiness! Cranky when hungry...

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet. I realize when I am hungry or feel deprived I'm SOOOO cranky. I'm a little grumpy about feeling "starving". I feel it's not fair and start comparing myself to my "thin" friends who eat whatever they want. It's emotionally a roller coaster and draining.

Any tips on getting over the cranky hump? Thanks.

I'm on day 3 of the pre-op diet also and it is frustrating, but then I remember the bigger picture, why I'm doing this, and it gives me the strength to keep going. I'm also told that it gets easier after day 3, so *fingers crossed*.

The first week of my pre-op diet I would wake up crying that I'm starving but had to remember the big picture. The first 2 weeks is the hardest thing you will ever do and be thankful for it. I am down 216 lbs now in the first 9 months and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Day 11 of clear liquid sugar free with 3 Protein Drinks a day and.... I am also cranky, but calm myself by doing the count backwards from 10 thingy, it helps. Yes.. I am pretty full, just miss grazing and chomping!! I think thats my weakness and I am dealing with it better than I thought. Mind staying STRONG! (Pre-op diet) Tuesday the 8th is my day, early wake up 3:30 am. Got to be there at 5am :)..

Hi starfish. I am having surgery on Tuesday and the first few days were the vert frustrating. Then it got a little easier. I am not hungry I just want to to chew on and something different then what I'm allowed. It's not forever and it will get more tolerable

Here is a question - does this feeling or needing to graze and chomp go away after you are sleeved? I am testing myself for a few weeks to see if I can even do the pre-op diet before I see the doc! Day 1 is hard and my brain keeps saying to go to the fridge or the pantry for really no reason and my mouth is salivating? WHY?

I think for me.. knowing i HAVE to do it is what helps.. Ive done liquid diets before but always ended up cheating.. this time, I know I have to do it. liquid diets are challenging and I feel like I'm craving EVERYTHING but it goes by fast and the end result is so worth it!

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one having the "pre-op" crankiness. I think some of it for me isn't so much the hunger, but the ketosis. I was feeling light headed and shaky and went and got some diabetic Keto sticks. Yup...was moderately ketotic. Gotta talk to the nutrish on Monday because I work in a job where I can't be shaky or light headed.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
