When in doubt, order soup! I have had a lot of brothy Soups since I wasn't comfortable ordering a full meal. (Just stay away from the cream based soups.) Now, I usually stick to chicken or fish with veggies as the side. I love having leftovers to take back to work or home for later. I've noticed salads don't keep very well, so I avoid ordering those.

It is actually fun. Today at Chili's I ordered from their "light" menu. They have a Caribbean chili chicken that is fabulous and instead of the side I got a cup of Soup for later.

It's at least 3 meals in 1!!! You can't beat that!

To each their own. I'll be 8 months out on the 16th. I don't eat out often, but when I do I never deny myself because I know I'll crave it and eat junk in the meantime when I could have had that in the first place. When I go to Applebee's, I usually do the appetizer trio with wings, sliders or wonton tacos (and just eat the innards), and whatever 3rd I feel like and I'll eat 2 wings and a bite or 2 of the others. Paneras is always broccoli cheddar Soup (with the little bread chunk I make it 2 meals). Cheesecake Factory last week and I got the Madeira chicken YUM!!!!! It lasted me 4 meals and I only ate about 1/3 if the potatoes but well worth it. If I want Pasta, I'll get it with chicken or steak. I got the blackened steak penne at Applebee's a few weeks ago and it lasted about 3 meals and I dumped the rest. Bk or McDs ill get a chicken nugget kids meal, eat 3 nuggets and a 2-3 fries and dump the rest. Wendys/Wawa/etc if I get a salad ill get it with chicken or turkey and just eat the toppings not the salad/croutons. I can only eat about 1/2 a regular beef taco, not worth it and it runs through me the next day. pizza I can eat 1 slice no crust over an hour (thin crust "jersey/NY style" pizza, not like dominos ill only eat the cheese off that lol) I've noticed even though I can only eat about a cup of something, I will eat it the same time everyone eats a full meal. I chew thoroughly, talk, and push my food around the plate in the meantime. I also will take super tiny sips of drinks throughout dinner (altogether maybe about an ounce).

I don't really eat meal meals throughout the day, more so "grazing" on Protein and nutrient stuff. I snack on Protein Bars I ordered that are loaded with Vitamins as well my normal physician told me about as well as things like cheese, Jerky, and sometimes grapes. I have also done popcorn but it seems to be a slider food.

I admit, I drink soda. Don't drink half a pack like I used to, but I'll drink maybe 1/2 a bottle of diet Pepsi at work everyday. There's theories you shouldn't do it because you can stretch your stomach, it causes ulcers and cancer, the caffeine causes hunger.. Honestly, there's really just no nutrition in it. I like it though, I can keep it in moderation and balance it out so I don't deny myself anything.

My bariatric nurse said this- If you love Mexican food...order chicken fajitas. Don't eat the tortillas and dip your fork into the sour cream and guacamole instead of pouring it all over the chicken. She said to do the same with Salad Dressing.< /p>

Y is that?

Because the carbonation. Your new Tummy is tiny and you will experience pain and gas. I drink crystal light and diet tea. Don't take a chance because I've heard it hurts

GREAT question! I wondered the same thing myself when going through the journey. Protein is number one- I usually order fajitas because I enjoy all the fixings without the bread. My mom says she benefits as well because we usually split an entree since I only eat around 3 ounces. She has been losing weight and is happy to share portions :)

I was sleeved May 2012. I am married with 2 Healthy Boys. When we go out to eat, I do not order anything for myself. My Hubby gives me a couple peices off his plate and I am completely satisfied. If its not alot of food for him... I will then add a side salad to his mean to make sure We are both satisfied. I order Water to drink because thats 3.00 I can now save also. :) I dont push myself because I dont want to stretch my stomach and I despise the sick feeling. Good Luck to everyone!!

I LOVE leftovers so I usually get a regular meal with a Protein and order sides that are not Pasta or potato. If I do get potato I make sure it's plain baked or baked sweet potato.

I stay away from sauces and usually ask for a box. I eat really slow so we are finished about at the same time. What I like to do if I remember is to keep a tupperware in my bag. It keeps better.

I have a tendency to put leftovers in the fridge and forget about them. I hope I don't wind up wasting too much food!

If I'm not hungry, I will get a glass of Water. If I am hungry, I find out what my mom or husband is going to get and I will not order. I will get a little plate and take a very small portion of their plate. They don't mind at all because I can't eat enough to really take most of their food. Sometimes my mom will ask me what I'm in the mood for and I'll tell her (like at Red Lobster) that I wanted the grilled salmon. She will find a plate that has the salmon on it or do the create your own feast. Other times I will ordering the children's menu. It is totally psychological, but sometimes I miss ordering and receiving food. Strange, I know. That's when I normally order on the children's menu.

I go out to eat on a once a week usually on Sat nite with my husband . And i make sure I chose steak and salad and veggie. Usually by the time I'm done eating the salad shortly after the food is coming right out I can't get even through half of my steak . So what I've done in the past is just get a side salad so i can get more of the steak and veggie in. But I always get the manager coming up to our table and asking if everything is alright I've noticed that since the surgery and I don't eat most of my plate and I just always get a togo box cut everything in half if not more.

I just want to say I love the way you work your sleeve . I would and will do the same thing as soon as I am cleared for regular foods . I was never a big soda drinker so that is not an issue for me !

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
