Eatting Woes

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Nov. 1. I had some complications with my stomach swelling shut. I was on tpn for 6 weeks. Long story short, I've been trying to find soft foods to eat and my list is so short. Pretty much fish, crab or shrimp. Nothing else stays down...any ideas?

How about sf pudding, sf Jello, yogurt? Those are really easy on the tummy. Or go back to the very basics like broths and increase the consistency slowly. :) Hope you get your tummy working better soon.

Hi, you might also try string cheese, crackers bananas, grits, and soft fruits (peaches, strawberries, cantaloupe, and Water melon etc).

Don't forget your Protein Shakes because they are important. I tried the Muscle milk brand and it soon made my stomach and i found that adkins and Premier Protein shakes help my tummy to settle. Both are sold at Sams Wholesale

I'm 12 weeks post op and solid food doesn't like me at all yet! I can nibble on Pure Protein Bars (Costo or GMC) throughout the day and I have at least one shake a day and a Greek Yogurt. Meals are still challenging for me. Some days I can have the shake and yogurt before lunch then just have a couple slices of low sodium turkey and a slice of cheese between lunch and dinner. Dinner is also hard, today I had about 1/4 cup of a turkey-pot-pie (just a bit of crust, mostly turkey and veggies). I keep cottage cheese (the new ones that have about 1 tbl. of fruit on the side), low-fat string cheese and Sugar Free Chocolate pudding on hand. If I didn't make my 60-80 gram of Protein goal, I'll have another mini-shake (1 glass of skim milk w/ 1/2 scoop protein powder) before bed. If I don't get enough protein in my stomach growls like a son of a b.... until morning. Like "they" say, protein first (and Vitamins and water) before other nutrients. If you focus on the protein, your hunger will be satiated and you will survive on low calories (I'm still at 600/day) until you can eat more and exercise.

I too am struggling with solid foods and am 12 wks post op. I find all meat but beef and fish makes me sick. I'm only able to hold around 2.5 ounces of food at each meal and ALL the Protein drinks make ill. Vitamins where a challenge but I now take Flintstones chewable , vita D, bariatric solutions B-12 (that dissolve under your tongue) and there double Iron chewable. I'm still looking for a Omega 3 supplement that will benefit me. I'm never hungry or thirsty. So I find it hard to even get my liquids down. My weight loss seems to be in spurts. I'm down 53 pds have another 50 to 60 to go. I do have a Jerky habit. I snack on it threw out the day. I'm lucky to get 600 to 700 calories a day and 40 g of protein:/ I'm trying thou. :)

I'm really liking weigh watchers version of laughing cow Swiss with crab and a tiny bit of pizza sauce. What about turkey pepperoni? Also with a tiny bit of pizza sauce and a tiny bit of low fat mozzarella cheese. Canned chicken with a little non fat mayo and mustard. Hard boiled egg or scrambled egg

What do you do with the crab and cheese? Is it the cheaper crab in the tuns aisle?

I use imitation crab that i get at the deli. They also sell it prepackaged in the refrigerated section. I just get a little piece of each on my girl and dip it in the sauce. My Mom makes a dip with cream cheese, crab, and cocktail sauce where she spreads the cream cheese on the dish, pours over the sauce then sprinkles on the crab, i was going for something similar

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
