Yes, i do have drain tube in. The home nurse today said the a lot of people say there is much less pain once the tube come out. I am dealing with some gas pains I just cant get rid of. I know in a couple months I will feel a whole lot better. Just have to get through one day at a time!

There seems to be two threads of people who had surgery on Monday' date=' December 17. I hope you are all doing well! I just posted that I have been very surprised that I don't feel worse. Some people are reporting feeling worse. My stomach is tender, and coughing is no fun at all, but my throat seemed to be the worst. I'm walking fine, and just tired and tender. I thought it would be much worse, and I'm relieved. I hope everyone is doing great![/quote']

It's 11:30 PM. I am trying to take regular liquid tylenol overnight, since I would like to wean off of the other stuff. Unfortunately, the only liquid tylenol that we have is for children and I have to drink 6 tsp (based on weight).

Throat is still the main problem. Stomach is sore, but to me, delivering a child is still way more painful than this surgery. It just bothers me that I can't swallow and that my upper chest is "tight" feeling.

As for walking, on a flat surface I am pretty good. When I climb up stairs to our second floor, I get winded...probably because my lungs are still not completely inflated.

Hoping tomorrow will be a better day for us all.

Sorry to hear about your blood pressure, but hopefully as you lose weight, hypertension will be a thing of the past.

My 8 year old son had a sore throat this morning, so I held of on taking meds so I could take him to Kaiser for a strep test. By the time we got home, I was really sore. I took the meds, and passed out for 4 1/2 hours! I think I need to stay on the meds for a while.

Hope you are all well!

So today was a 100% improvement for me! I've been able to space out the pain meds a bit and an getting more regular fluids down. Went to the mall and lasted a total of four hours! The deep breathing has been incredibly helpful and bracing with a pillow to cough helps too. Overall, this is what I expected. I think I probably should have stayed in the hospital one additional day due to lack of Fluid intake, but I made it through! Now I'm just looking forward to less tummy pain and more regular intake. But overall - so happy!

I think the pain relief (in my case Loratab) is something that I will evaluate day by day. I plan on taking plain children's tylenol tonight, but tomorrow I start the serious walking. Maybe I will feel fine after. Maybe not. At least if I have the loratab, I can manage my pain for a little bit. And, fortunately, my sister is here to help out, so I don't need to worry about driving.

Sorry your son got sick. This is a bad time of year for strep. Hope you both feel better soon.

All good news. I am not doing the breathing thing as much as I should, but my sister gave me the tip about the pillow. It really does help.

So glad you are feeling better! I'm really feeling pretty good too. Just tender. Strange to be planning holiday meals, and have no interest in them.

Walking is so helpful, and the pillow trick is essential. I still hate coughing.

We are getting through the worst of it, and I don't feel like it was very bad. Yea!

Happy Holidays to everyone! What a great Christmas present!

I think I am doing okay. I came home with the following meds: stool softener and Clear Lax' date=' Hydrocodone Bitaartrate and Acetaminophen (liquid) for pain, Ondansetron for nausea, robaxin for muscle spasms. I also have enoxaparin (a blood thinner), because of a family history of blood clots. I feel a little overwhelmed by the meds, the Vitamins, drinking and "eating" liquid foods.

I did not get a lot of sleep last night. I would wake up for meds or to walk every other hour. I don't think I can lay down the normal way in bed. I am a side sleeper, but the thought of being extremely prone with all the incisions in my stomach scares me. I may sleep sitting up in a chair. Also, I have that breathing device to reinflate my lungs. I still haven't powered up to the level the docs want me to attain.

I know the next few days are going to be a big adjustment. Hopefully I can stay hyrdrated, etc.[/quote']

God i feel left.out..in the med department...i was going home with nothing....till i asked for some Tramadol aka Ultram ( non narcotic) cant stand the head high they give me...

I don't know what to say about surgery-induced hypertension. Is that something you can google?

Well...if it makes you feel better I am not using any of the fancy stuff now. I have to take synthroid for my thyroid. That is a problem that will never go away regardless of weight loss. I have an autoimmune problem called Hashimoto's. Any way grinding up pills and putting them in other things just tastes nasty.

I am really surprised that you had to ask for prescription pain meds when they released you from the hospital, though.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
