40 Y.O.,Obese since childhood, want to lose 150?

Recommended Posts

I'll be 40 in less than a month and I'd like to lose about 135 pounds. I've been overweight since childhood. My highest was in 2008 at 363 pounds, that's pretty bad for my 4'11" frame. I started my pre-op diet at 323 pounds and I'm currently at 180. I've got about 5 days left til surgery. I hope everything goes well. I'm not sure how fast my weightloss will be either. Good luck to you.

Not quite 40, but close at 36. I have been overweight my entire life. I can remember my earliest embarrassment having to do with my weight in the 3rd grade. Physical fitness day at school. We were in line to be weighed and I was 115 lbs. The kids around me were mortified that I was in the 100's. Fast forward 25 years later and I was sitting at an even 300. The sleeve surgery has changed my life. I have lost 100.2 lbs thus far. My surgery was 11/15/12, so I reached my first and second goal in 6.5 months. I now weigh 199.8! I still have 40-45 lbs to go to hit a healthy bmi and body fat %, but I am well on my way! Good luck to you all!

I too have been obese my entire life. I don't know my highest weight for sure but it was probably about 360 in 2002. I got down to 285 very slowly over the period of three years, then went back up to about 310. I kept hovering round 300 lbs until my brother died in 2009 and I gained 25 lbs, lost it and regained, blah, blah, blah! I'm 53 and my current stats are in my signature. I wish this surgery had been available when I was 40 but I doubt I would have had the courage to do it then. I hope to get down to 220 and I'm well on my way. I'm also very tall, 6'1". My surgeon said to expect to lose approx 80% of my excess weight The main thing is, to my mind, that this isn't a magic cure but a really great tool that makes it much easier to stay on a low calorie diet via Portion Control.

pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

I too was overweight my entire life. I was always the heaviest kid in my class which made me the brunt of jokes. I got down to 170 my senior year if high school but ballooned up when my father passed away 1 month before my 18th birthday. I have lost and gained 50-100lbs several times during my life. I have had several knee surgeries including a total and partial knee replacement. The partial after a life threatening strep/staph infection. I fought for 18 months and had an additional surgery (extensive spinal/neurosurgery). I finally got sleeved 2 months before my 52nd birthday this year.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
