Why Are Tea/coffee Taboo Post Surgery ?

I want to have a rational scientific explanation as to why tea or coffee should not be taken after sleeve. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Not taboo forever, only the first 5-6 weeks while you are healing. If you are a coffee person, you can look forward to having cappuccino or grande drinks again.

I was served coffee while I was still in the hospital. The only thing I was told never to touch was gummy vitamins as they can get stuck and cause huge problems. Also told to take a PPI (proton pump inhibitor ie. acid reducer) twice a day. I take plain old generic omeprazole and it works like a charm. I drink 2 or 3 cups of real coffee every day and haven't ever had a problem. Seems surgeons all have different rules and advice so common sense coupled with trial and error is the key to knowing what works for you. Their advice is merely that.... advice. Always a good idea to listen, but ultimately, you have to decide for yourself what works for you.

They are not forbidden by every surgeon. But you should follow your surgeon's advice. You chose them for a reason. I could have coffee as soon as I passed my leak test and I have had it every morning since. I was told 2 cups a day max.

I've been drinking tea (proper English tea) since my leak test. I'd be climbing the walls without it. It constitutes most of my liquid intake although I do try to drink water in between cups of tea.

I end up awake for over 24 hrs with caffeine. I wasn't a coffee or tea drinker preop, so when I had iced tea 4 weeks out, it was pretty intense
