Back To Mexicali For My Check_Up

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I just wanted to report that I went back to Mexicali for my 3 month check-up with Dr Aceves/ Campos. My wife and I flew in to San Diego and rented a car (it costs an extra $35 a day for Mexico insurance) and drove all the way to the hospital parking garage without incedent. We eve went pharmaceutical shopping for a relative and went further in and ate lunch while in Mexicali. We felt safe at all times and would not hesitate to go back if I needed to.

As far as my check-up goes....My upper GI showed that I am eating too fast as my esophagus was enlarged. I was told that I am not eating too much, just too fast, and that my esophagus was acting as a reservoir until it made its way to the sleeve. Has Anybody else been told this?

I have not gotten my bloodwork back yet, so no news there.

BTW, I am 100 days post-op and down 95 lbs from the start of my pre-op diet, down 76 lbs from Day of Surgery.

95 pounds is awesome! Such an inspiration!! :) I am glad to hear that you felt safe during your trip. I've been kind of stressing myself out over the safety issue. Thanks for sharing!

I'm heading back to Mexicali for my follow up on Friday morning! I'll let you know what comes from that. I feel like I eat pretty fast, an possibly too much. It will be interesting to see what the docs say.

Thanks for the report!

Did the doctor require you come back for the check up or was that a personal decision?

How do you get your prescriptions there if your prescriptions are from a u.s Dr.

I'd love to save the money. I have such high cost prescriptions, several!!

Dr Aceves does not require patients to return to him for follow up, it's optional.

I am considering returning to Dr Aceves for my 3 month checkup also. Frza, can you let me know how you make out going back for your check up? Much appreciated, thanks.

I'd love to go back for follow-up but don't think i want to make that long journey again. Are you guys far away or close to Mexicalli?

I am in British Columbia, Canada. When I went down in September, there were direct flights. From now until spring, there are no direct flights so I'm not totally sure about going back but would like to for my first check up at least. :)

I'm from San Diego originally so I'll be visiting my friends and family there over the weekend. Mexicali is only a couple hrs away.

We took the packaging and they sold it over the counter. My wife wanted Retin-A and her mom needed some blood pressure medicine. The Retin-A was $19 per tube, the BP stuff was $40 a pack ($560 at home). I also got some more PPI. They will sell over the counter unless it is a controlled substance.

Personal decision for me. My insurance does not cover anything related to WLS. I was afraid to try with my family doctor, as it would have been $2500 if the insurance didi not pay. Instead...me and the wife spent 4 lovely days in South California without the kids ;p.

The only bad part about the trip was that we got rained on for 6 hours in Disneyland.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
