Who started up smoking after surgery and if u did how soon???

I haven't smoked in like 7 weeks n I'm 2 wks post op n have been craving a cig.. but idk if its ok to..

Go for a walk! Do something to get your mind off of it. It has been 7 weeks! Way to go!!!! You should be very proud of yourself. Why start again? It is so unhealthy for you.

I quit smoking a little over two years ago, and love not having to be dependant on smokes!

I am two days toward surgery and I had to take a puff I hope I dont die.

Former smoker here. I dont miss it at all. I never thought I would say that but now when I see people smoking I dont feel bad that I cant have one, I feel bad that they smoke and are doing all that harm to themselves. After surgery you will become way more health conscious (hopefully) and you may realize how bad it is for you. It is so freeing not to be dependent on them anymore.

Dont smoke.

My experience.I started at 4 months post op.Without food life felt boring.Needed something I could do and started smoking again.At 5 months I had an ulcer.I stop till my stomach felt better then start again,stop and start...Then we found my vit C and vit A is now super low.Dr. says might just be the combination of the surgery with the smoking but my vits are affected by the smoking.

OK I got it.I stopped last week and boy is it difficult to not gain weight now.

Point is 1.for some of us our stomachs just dont like the smoking anymore.

2.You will just have to stop at some point anyway and stop smoking usually goes with weight gain because smoking does increase metabolic rate and we tend to eat more to satisfy the oral issues when we quit.

While you are not smoking,DONT DO THIS TO YOURSELF.Its harder to stop post surgery than before.

Missv2012,

Dont smoke now.It is too close to surgery.Healing really is affected by it for some and you dont want the issues this can cause at this point.

DON'T DO IT!!!!! You will only regret it afterwards. Even if its ok by now what with the surgery it's still going to kill you! 7 weeks without one is amazing and you no longer 'need' the nicotine. Now it's just all habit, and a really really bad one!

Great time to start new habits post sleeve. I don't know about you, but a couple of my really nasty habits just vanished after getting sleeved.

First one is impulsive and emotional eating. Good bye apple fritters, i don't miss you. Good bye 10 oreos, i don't miss you. Good bye a whole package of donut holes, i don't miss you. I hated the way you would pick me up and then drop kick me into the depth of despair. That one is obvious am I am sure most can relate with it. The second habit is not so obvious: drinking. I have had no desire for any drinks post sleeve. Good bye Long Island teas, I don't miss you. Good bye beers, I don't miss you. 3rd habit gone is soda. Goodbye coke zero I don't miss you. Good bye dr diet pepper, I don't miss you. Last habit gone is energy drinks. Good bye rock star zero, I don't miss you. Good bye 5 hour energy I don't miss you. And I definitely do not miss the crashes that follow.

Now here are some habits I have developed. Hello 3 hour Protein meals. You are a good companion that keeps my energy level and my emotions in check. Hello daily exercise. You keep me full of energy and good spirits and overall healthy body. You help me sleep better and feel more rested through the day. Hello Water. You keep me feeling alive and full of life. Hello new outlook on life. Hello more authentic relations with those in my life. Hello life. You are worth living again.

Save that hard earned quit - it only gets easier the longer you go. I'm serious!

I smoked 1-2 packs a day for 28 years and quit November 1, 2010 and have not had one puff since. Go see your Dr.they can help you - smoking now would be not good.

You may take a drag and find that you no longer like smoking. That was my experience after giving in to the cravings last month. The damn thing tasted so bad that I ground it out after about 4 puffs. I even tried again a week later, same outcome.

It gets easier! I smoked a pack a day for 11 years and I quit in 99' after 2 bouts with pneumonia. Best decision I ever made. Yes..I miss it. Yes ..nothing smells better than that first puff of smoke...but I have never looked back ..crap who can afford that habit anymore anyway!!! My brand is $6 a pack + tax now! Don't do it! You are stronger than that craving you are having! It's so hard in the beginning. I used to "smoke" straws I cut down to cigarette size to help me. Nothing better than sucking good ole air! Hugs to you. Could not have said it better myself. My habit of choice that I do NOT miss was diet Mountain Dew mixed with diet red bull. Yes mixed together at the same time. Ugh.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
