It's the day after surgery and I kept having people tell me the day after is so much better than the day of. But.... I can not burp any of the gas up. Seriously, I'm not a burper. I know it sounds weird but I have never been able to burp, voluntary nor involuntary, in my entire life. I feel horrible. How am I going to get rid of the terribly painful gas?

It will happen eventually. You will either burp it out or fart it out. My advice is to keep walking and eventually things will start moving. Are you still on pain meds? Pains meds make it impossible for me to rid my body of gas, so I stop them asap.

What helped me was walking, Gas-x, laying on my side with a thin pillow to support my belly ( almost always produced a good fart), and sitting up and then bending my legs out to the side and putting my feet sole to sole. It will happen in time. I swear!!

Gas-X and WALKING. It will go away in a few days.

Walk the gas off.....I got up about every hour to walk down the hallways. This will pass in about 3 - 5 days.

I've had past experience with them and it always causes me to not be able to fart and burp. It slows the digestive tract and causes severe constipation. The story is actually pretty long but a year ago I developed a 7cm ovarian cyst and was in excruciating pain. They pumped me full of pain meds and warned me that it would cause problems. I went to the doc complaining of severe stomach cramps and not being able to stand up. I was pushed around in a wheel chair because of the intense pain. The doc put a stethoscope on my belly to see if things were moving and she said there was hardly any activity in my digestive tract. I was also unable to eat for several days and when I tried I would vomit. I stopped the pain meds and sure enough once it was out of my system I was able to fart and burp. My body doesn't like pain meds at all and I'm sure not everyone has that reaction to them. Also after VSG surgery I had the same problem and decided to stop them the day after surgery. Basically my symptoms were caused by severe constipation from pain meds.

The strangest thing happened to me because of the pain meds and it was really the worse thing I went through in the hospital. I could not pee! My bladder felt like it was going to explode, but I could not get anything to come out no matter how hard I tried. It was very painful. I finally discovered that if I stood up over the toilet I could get it to come out. I had to pee standing up for about 3 days! Strangest thing I have ever experienced. Thank God I am back to normal now!

I didn't have that much gas, mainly the first night, Tuesday. I found if I did the breathing machine they gave me to prevent pneumonia, it helped! I am out day 4 and haven't had any gas since Wednesday.

LOL, my bladder gets very slow when I have surgery, I can feel like I am going explode, but it will take me 5 minutes to start, then it stops, then it starts, etc. One time I know I was in the bathroom for 15 minutes and only went like 200 ml, it felt like a gallon!

My doc told me that a heating pad would irritate the work on the inside (swelling and stuff)...... You may want to verify that it's okay
