Banded Thursday

Recommended Posts

Well, I won't lie...I was in much more pain than I anticipated in the beginning. For those of you who never took your pain meds after surgery, you are a marvel.

For the first couple of days, even drinking an ounce of Water was painful for me, but today (Day Four) is going extremely well. I am weaning myself off of the meds in hopes that I can drive on Tuesday.

One problem I've had is that there are lots of discrepancies in the literature the surgeon provided to me. I didn't realize it until I after the surgery.

First, I realized that my doc/nutritionist never told me how long to wait between food and drink.

They gave me a pamphlet by Lapband (the brand) and it says 1-2 hours. I was thinking that some folks here said 15 minutes. 2 hours is forever.

Also...the Lapband pamphlet says to eat no more than 2 ounces of food, but my doc has me eating 4.

Additionally, the nutritionist provided me with a handout that says Isopure has 40 grams of Protein in one bottle. It only has 20. I'm just glad I realized the mistake before I went bald.

Seems like since this is the only surgery my doc handles, they'd be a little more diligent in providing accurate and easy-to-understand information to their patients. But I'm not bitter. In fact, I'm VERY EXCITED!!!

I can't believe I went through with it! Yay! The worst is over! :clap2:

Hey Derbygirl.

Congrats on your banding. I'm so excited to get a surgery date; won't be until approx January, but I'm here to gain as much knowledge as I can. So, if in the event I run into issues like you have - I'll be 'self educated' and not have to rely strictly on my nutritionist and doctors handouts!

And remember, there is no blue ribbon in the end if you go with, or without pain meds! heheeeeeeee! I plan on taking as many as possible to get me through the first few day!

I'm so glad to know you're so aware of all you're doing; and you're keeping yourself educated! Knowledge is power!

Good luck!

Derbygirl, congratulations on your banding. I am 6 days out now and I feel really good. I did experience pain and still do at times, but it is nothing like the first 2 days. My surgeon advised that you not drink 15 minutes before or 1 hour after each meal. Also, 4oz. but take up to 30 minutes to eat. This I think is pretty consistant with what I have seen in these threads. Good Luck to you and happy banding!!!!!!!!!:girl_hug:

I felt just like you, a friend of mine was banded and took meds one day. I took them for four days and though the tightness in my stomach was never going to go away. It bugged me to no end. But good news, I had my surgery Aug 23. My stomach doesn't feel tight anymore and have lost 22 or 23 pounds something like that. I have been a slow loser but I believe that is due to the fact that the month of my surgery I missed my period and then in sept right before my first fill on the 26th I started again and went for 7 days. That is the longest I have ever been since I was a teenager. I put my scale up in the closet because everyday I kept stepping on it and thinking I might have lost few pounds but I wasn't losing. But again, I think it was due to my period complications. Anyway, back to you. Good luck and take care of yourself, don't rush healing, your body will take care of that itself.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
