I play also...I had my surgery 1/5/11...I was at my first game in the beginning of March. Just the fatigue was the issue for me.

Yea I think the problem I would be scared is swinging the bat full power =/ but I know that I will prob be out for half a year which sucks because im on a sponser team

I am a month out and they just gave me permission to start arm and leg work, but advised a another couple of weeks before I could do any core work. They basically don't want you to engage your abs to much. I would say about the 3 month mark, but of course it depends on how you feel. Obviously you are going to have to strengthen those muscles all over

If you're already sleeved then wait till next year's season. If you are yet to be sleeved then ask your doc, I think they will generally say OK at about 6-8 weeks out.

I was really worried about swinging the bat... I didn't feel anything, I still got a little tired but that was it.

My surgeon told us that there is a 8 week period where we couldn't lift anything over 10 lbs then I was cleared and could do anything with in reason. Good luck and please don't risk causing injury to yourself.

I don't play softball, but I do horse stuff and was told to wait about 8 weeks before engaging in any activity that could result in heavy lifting (flinging the saddle up), sudden jerking impacting abs (uh, horses can do that sort of thing without warning) or has risk of falling from a taller height (I think they made that one up just for me).

I too was told to not lift more then about 8-10 pounds until at least 6 weeks out.

Normally, 6 weeks seems to be the magical date when they say everything is healed, but as a band to sleeve revision they always added a bit more "caution time" for me so it was more like 8 weeks before I was all cleared for everything.

But since you can't see a healed stomach you don't know if those staples are all grown over and your stomach is healed. As you know, your torso is at risk in this sport in more ways than just swinging the bat so be sure to hang it up the entire healing period. After that you'll have no worries and can hit home runs all day long :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
