Hi Everyone,

Just a quick note to say that Sunday October 21, 2012 was

my 4 year anniversaryheart.gif for having VSG aka the sleeve on October 21, 2008. Dr. Aceves did my sleeve and from there I lost a total of 105 pounds and have kept it off. I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful Dr. Aceves and his entire staff are. They are magnificent, caring, compassionate, kind, and the hospital is the very best you could ever want to have surgery in. They clean 24-7 at this hospital. When I was there they cleaned my room 3 times a day. I also saw 2 doctors at least 2 times a day while I was there. In my book I feel Dr. Aceves is the finest Weight Loss Surgeon there is out there. I can only speak about my knowledge, but I highly endorse him. You will see that countless people feel the same about him as I do. cool2.gif

I want you to know that you can have this kind of accomplishment

too! Life has changed so much for me. I am 67 years old now and I do things that I would have never done before. If you are the person who is sitting out there reading all these posts and you can’t make up your mind PLEASE step up and do something to change YOUR life. My

only regret is that I should have done it sooner. bringiton.gif

I could make a very long list of the things that have changed in my life. I think the 1st thing is for the first time in a long time my health is superior, and 4 years ago I couldn’t say that. My primary care physician said I have set a great example for “older” people. He knows I went to Mexicali, Mexico and is so very supportive of what I have done. He has asked me if I would be willing to talk with some of his patients and explain what I have done to change my life, and I just may do this. I don’t care what your age is, please consider having weight loss surgery, it will save your life, change your life, and all for the better.deal.gif

I have set some goals for myself. I was the person who HATED to exercise. Now I am the person who wants to exercise. My first goal was to walk EVERY DAY for 30 days and not to miss one day. I completed that goal 10 days ago and today I hit my goal of walking 40

days in a row NOT missing one day. My next goal is to walk 60 days in a row and not miss a day. I walk in the sun, wind or rain, because I can and it feels good—something I NEVER would have said 5 years ago. I walk on an average 3 to 4 miles a day. 5 years ago I was lucky to

walk around the block 3 times a week. love.gif

Hi,

Thanks so much, I didn't add that I also got married. I had met a wonnderful man before I had the surgery and he could have cared less about my weight--he loved me for who I was  . We got married in 2010. Life just keeps getting better. It is a life chaning journey in so many ways.

Thanks again,

Hugs,

Suzanne

Hi,

I eat about 1,000 calories or 1,200 per day. I eat like I did when I was losing weight. I eat Protein first, then veggies. I try to avoid a lot of carbs. One of the things I do now is that I walk everyday and so that burns up some of those calories. I do have a desert now and then, but like always it is a small amount, and I do not do it every day. I have found that I still never feel hunger and that is nice. I try to stay busy, and if I want Snacks, I make sure I have a lot of healthy snack around the house.

I hope that is helpful.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Hi,

I am not sure what kind of stats you are looking for? I have maintained my 105 pound weight loss. I up or down 5 to 7 pounds now and then, depending on what I am doing. My doctor said he would like to see me weigh 140 lbs not 120. He said when you are older if you get really sick you really can't afford to lose much weight and by weighing 140 you have a little weight on you. I stay between 127 and 120.

Hi,

You are very welcome. I just want people to know that this is something that they can do. I seem to have a little more time than some of them do on this site. I think there are a lot of us out there with 4 years, but they just don't post on here anymore. I try to stay in touch and pay it forward to those who are just starting out and helping and support when they need it.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Thanks for answering our questions. it's nice to have someone so far out to give us a prospective on what we can look forward to and that we do this. That is wonderful of you to take out your time for us. I hope I can be of encouragement to someone once I'm further out as well.

Thanks for this post Suzzanesh. I wish more like you would post on here. I am just beginning this process and am really interested in the long term effects of this surgery. I am pretty sure I am going to do the sleeve. I went to my PCP today to get my letter for the bariatric center and I have my first appointment with the bariatric center on November 8th. I am trying to get approved so that I can get surgery mid-February. I know I will qualify based on my BMI being 45 and my cholestrol is high and my blood pressure runs a bit high. I am anxious about it but I know deep inside this is my only chance of ever being a normal weight.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
