Why So Hard Getting Water/protein?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was just wondering why some people have a tough time getting their Water or Protein intake...

Is it painful or just no desire to drink anything?

Thank you!

Right after surgery, it took me about an hour to get through a medicine cup of Water (20 mg) It just takes awhile and you have to sip sip sip. Sometimes you take in too much liquid at a time and then it can hurt.

For me it's due to the tiny sips you need to taketo avoid adding more gas. Also, on stage1 you can't have milk so Protein Powder mixed with Water is rough enough - couldn't finish serving. Yesterday I finally tried adding unflavored Protein (11 grams-1/2 scoop) to 3/4 cup ice water with Crystal lite raspberry lemonade and 4 ice cubes (melted make 8 oz. beverage total)- 3 of theseduring the day -33 grams and it was delicious and I drank every drop.finally made protein min. req. Thanks to Crystal Lite!!

I keep a cup of crushed ice with me all the time. It has helped me meet my Water goals daily.

I think it varies. During the first two weeks I struggled to get my liquids in. Now I'm entering week 4 and can honestly say I'm just tired of Liquid Protein and am starting to take less which is horrible. Thank goodness that I start mushy foods in a few days. Hopefully i will be able to start getting my Protein that way.

It is due to the swelling of the stomach. The sleeve when completely healed is 8+-oz. After surgery the 8oz is for the most part filled with swollen stomach tissue. It could swell to the point that in the first couple days there may no capacity.

The good news is that the excessive swelling goes down pretty quickly, however full capacity won't be reache for 6-12months.

Confused...were Popsicles adding to liquid quota? How much liquid does a SF ice pop count for? Have you found any with Protein?

This added to the Fluid intake in the first week after surgery when Fluid intake is more important than worrying about Protein intake. sugar free Popsicles vary in size so how I found out how much fluid my brand of Popsicle had in it was I melted one in the microwave in a glass measuring cup, removed the stick and viola..mine were 1/4 cup of fluid..so 4 equaled 1 cup of fluid. I got my protein needs from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder during that time as well that was mixed with Soy milk because I had become lactose intolerant after my surgery and this was the only supplement I could tolerate at the time. I enjoy EAS CarbAdvantage shakes now.

This is a 'Duh, why didn't I think of that'? Great idea, zelmo! Gonna get some ice chips now. Hopefully I will be able to get more fluids in and get rid of this headache. Thanks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
