Pysch Evaluation - Approved But A Bit Depressed About It

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I had my pre-op pysch evaluation that was required by my insurance. I was approved and am grateful. However, when I walked out of the appointment yesterday ,I felt badly about myself. I had previously filled out pages and pages of questionnaires. The therapist gave me her take on the responses and told me a lot of info about my personality. Nothing which was positive. She had also quizzed me about the surgery and was forthcoming with stats about how marriages are often in jeopardy when one spouse loses weight. Lots of doom and gloom. I'm a realist and generally happy with my life besides my weight. I want the facts and understand I need to work hard to change my behavior and coping mechanisms, but really left there feeling down. I didn't think she did me or anyone else a favor by her approach. Is this the norm? Did others experience this with their evaluations?

Rachel

That wasn't a very pleasant psych eval. It is her job to tell you some of the consequences of the surgery on your marriage, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. I haven't heard from a huge majority of people here that his/her weight loss caused their divorce. In those marriages, there were already underlying issues playing. I would take note of what the therapist told you and work on changing them if you feel it's hindering you in any ways. We can all make changes in our behaviors to assist in strengthening our relationships with others. This is not a bad thing. It's a good thing. now you know what you might want to work on in your new journey. Time to celebrate! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Cheers to a New Journey In Life! :)

My pysch evaluation was horrible too. I try to tell myself that he based his opinions on meeting me once and this gives him no authority to form any opinion about me. His job was to evaluate whether I was mentally stable enough to do the surgery..period! Beyond that it is his statistics and opinions...and like A**holes...every one has a opinion too... As far as statistics...I NEVER seem to fall into the catagory. You are fine Rachel....You WILL do great and life will be as wonderful as you make it!! Remember you are not a stat and his negetives are his...not yours!! I am 3 weeks out and I have no regrets...erase his statements...he is just a stat!! :)

May I ask you for some of the terms she used?

Alot of psc(fffttt -whatevers)ists are extremely negative in my opinion do not do so purposefully, but they do and the hurt is there...

thing is we all have negative traits...and she was probably trying to stress the negatives associated with this surgery. hers is an art, but it does not mean she is a master - lets hope she is a Monet - it seems like a big ol mess while you are up close to it, but will mellow and be something else as you eval what she said.

Blessed Be. (((HUGGS)))

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
