How do you find out the success rate of a surgeon? My dr is Richard Nyugen from Advanced Surgical Associates in San Jose, Ca. Has anyone one here heard of any bad work he has done? Or has had the sleeve done by him? How was it? Im seeing stories on here and it has me scared. o_O

Look him up on health grades. Ask about attending a support group where his patients go, you will meet people and find out the real deal.

Not sure what stories are scaring you - but it is a serious surgery and there is a risk of complications. If you can lose weight and keep it off without surgery - that is safer. Me, I couldn't do that and weighing 300+ was killing me slowly so I was willing to take the risk. Sleeve surgery has slightly lower complication rate then the gastric bypass however. I picked a surgeon with lots of experience, and with a good reputation and then had the good luck too - no complications. It is a risk though.

Thank you!!! Im 250 & have severe sleep apnea and have other issues from weight gain. I am now on the liquid diet and am scheduled for surgery on Oct 10th. Have been seeing others talk about leaks just has me spazzing out. Gettin scared but at the same time i know this surgery will help. Just mixed emotions i guess.

While I used a different Bay Area surgeon, I've heard good things about Dr. Nyugen. Wish I could remember where/who it came from, but I think it was from users on this forum over the past months. I would definitely talk to anyone in his support groups, or do a search on this forum. Best of luck!

(If you're local, I'm selling lots of clothes this weekend at community yard sale in Santa Cruz. PM me if you're interested! I'd love to hook up another VSG buddy!)

Thank you so much for the info. I am googling everything possible about him right now and am getting a little more comfortable in my choice of dr.

I live in Yuba City tho. Which is 2 and a half to 3 hours from San Jose. Not local at all. Tho i loved out there. I tell everyone that im from sacramento cuz when i say Yuba City, they are like Huh? Where is that? LOL. Im actually 40 mins from Sac.

Ah, yes unless you live out here most people won't know Yuba City. Much like most people think Santa Cruz is like an hour from Los Angeles....

What hospital? I believe I've heard the name in our WLS support group in San Jose. I will be getting the sleeve Oct 9th at Good Sam, by Dr Zare.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
