Weight Loss Panic!

Recommended Posts

I meet with my surgeon on 10/15/12 for my last pre op visit. He required me to lose 13 pounds and I did. BACK IN MAY! I have put five back on and I'm freaked out on losing it. I do great during the day , but I am eating high calories at night. So I'm lookin for a pep talk. My surgery is 10/22/12 and I want my liver out of the way for the procedure . Hope to here from some of you who have delt with this situation. Untill then....

Butterthebean gave me great advice on this, something about ghrelin (the hunger hormone) being released late at night to keep you awake...

Also if you are fasting during the day you will be hungrier at night...

Your metabolism lasts for 12 hours... If you're having your first meal later in the morning then you may still be hungry later into the evening...

I think coming on here regularly, especially at night as a distraction, can help keep you motivated :)

Best of luck!

Be strong. You are stronger than you think. Still post op I have head hunger. Something that helps me is mindfull eating and understanding the emptiness of head hunger vs. actual hunger. Head hunger for me is an emptiness or hollowness that I feel when I am stressed or just sitting around at night watching tv. I started volume eating prior to surgery to lose weight. I started with my lean Protein and once 3/4 of the way thru it ate my veg. As veg has very few calories if not dressed and sw imming in oil or butter I was able to eat about a 1/2 a pound of steamed veg to fill me up. I drank a full glass of Water prior to every meal and cut out or realy down the carbs. I was mindful of everything I put in my mouth and wrote it down.

I think what I had said was lack of sleep is associated with decreased leptin (which triggers satiety) and increased gherlin (which triggers hunger). Basically, you lose both ways by not getting enough sleep. If you're hungry at night, try to increase your sleep. I used to love to stay up late watching tv and browsing the net, now I try to just go to bed instead.

What he said ;)

You know we yawn to wake us up?! It draws in more oxygen...

Try warm chicken broth at night.

Oh yes, I found a hot cocoa with Water and lite milk became a psychosomatic sleep-inducer... It became the last thing I had at night as a habit... It seemed to work well :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
