1 Week Post Op - Question!

Recommended Posts

Today, I am 1 week out from surgery and feeling really good! I am down 22 pounds total. I lost 7 pounds pre op and have lost 15 pounds post op! Down from 258 to 236 this morning.

I'm able to drink a lot easier now and getting in all of my liquids. But the Protein is tough. Everything tastes so bad! But I'm getting in about 40-45 grams now. First follow-up appointment is Thursday. Hoping that once I move to full liquids, it will be much easier to meet the 60-80.

I still have a little bit of soreness around my largest incision. But it is tremendously better than it was just a few days ago. I can sleep on my right side somewhat, so I think that's pretty good!

Still haven't "went to the bathroom" yet lol. So weird to me because pre op I was very regular... when did you all have your first "number 2"???

Thanks!

You sound like you are ahead of the game. Getting all your liquids and that much Protein one week out is impressive. I would guess you are in the upper 10% of those being able to do so.

As far as #2 goes, it was about 8/9 days out. I had to use Milk of Magnesia to get things moving and pretty much took some everyday for about a week to keep *regular*. After that, and the fact that all you are taking in is liquids, things quickly reverse themselves.

Wow! I thought I was doing bad for not getting my Protein in! Thanks, now I feel much better lol. Now that swallowing is easier (first couple days home was very tough) I don't have any problem getting those liquids down, but I also really like Water.

Ok, 8/9 days makes me feel more normal. I can't remember if the doc told me I could do milk of magnesia or not yet, I'll call the office tomorrow and ask if I can do that.

Thanks! :)

I agree. That much Protein that early is quite impressive! Good job on the liquids.

I wasn't able to start Protein Drinks until 8 days after surgery then full liquids. I think you are doing great.

My surgeon prescribed Reglan to "keep things moving" so I had a BM three days out. That made me feel tremendously better! I've been getting my Fluid and Protein in since yesterday (my first full day home). I'm like you though, I love water!

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate all of the feedback! I contacted the nurse and she suggested going ahead and starting the milk of magnesia tonight. So, I just took a dose about thirty minutes ago. Hopefully, things will get to moving soon!! Lol

I think you are doing great too. Tomorrow will be one week from my surgery. I was lying on my sides in the hospital (albeit painfully) but was really walking so only 1.5 days of gas. No nausea. I love Water too. I drink the Liquid Protein and water. Had a tiny bit of Jello. Got off pain meds (Lortab) four days out. I'm impatient because i know I'm doing good but the ketosis is driving my heightened sense of smell crazy. Everything/everyone smells bad to me. Ive lost about 20 lbs from pre-op diet to current.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
