Piercings...are They Ok?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is October 9th, and was wondering if u can have Piercings in including my Nose ring! If I can't do you think a clear retainer for the nose ring ok, it will close up if I don't have something in! So hopefully you can help me? Thanks

I don't have anything pierced other than my ears, but was told to remove ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING that was metal. They even made me remove my toe ring ! This is because if for some reason they end up having to shock you, the metal won't weld itself into your skin since it conducts electricity. I would think plastic would be okay but best to check.

You can have your piercer put a tigon spacer in for surgery. I had those put in for surgery and it was approved no problem. (tigon is a clear plasticy, rubbery tubing) And mine were inches away from the surgery sight, so..... no prob.

As long as it's not metal, they should approve it. Just double check first so you don't lose your piercing!

Thanks so much, this has helped me! I'm just afraid they would make me take it out and it would close up on me!!! That would hurt to put back in! But I do have a retainer just like you have mentioned that I already use for my job, but I'll. Double check :)

Hey, I have my nose pierced and I left it in during surgery, the doctor just told me of a slight chance that something might happen and a volt or something could go through anything that is metal and it might burn a hole in my nose.. I was like.. Meh, I'll take the risk. haha, and I came out just fine. He said he has never seen it happen that it is usually only something in textbook but he has to say it as a warning.

Just make sure you tell the anesthesiologist.

Your piercings should be surgical steel. I have 23 piercings. Anytime I have gotten any medical tests or anything done I take out what I can. Some piercings (Such as dermals) are not meant to come out. One piercing shouldn't matter. Just make sure to tell the doctor first in case he has an issue with it.

Was someone looking for me? I saw the word "stud" so I figured I better check in.

I would check on it they don’t just ask because they are metal they also ask for the same reason they ask about your teeth if they stick a tube up your nose they could rip it out or they could rip it out and it go down your throat.

Things like belly button they want out because they can rip them out others you might need some sort of emergency thing and they may interfere with machines etc.

I took out my 2 tongue bars and left them clear I also removed and this op didn’t plastic space my hood piercing, during my gall bladder op the hood one had a plastic spacer in.

So just ask what to do.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
