Um...gas Question...

Recommended Posts

Not surgery gas, but intestinal gas. :o

A co-worker (no WLS!) swears that your gas is worse forever after surgery and it's, not to be gross but, stinkier.

Please tell me this isn't true! I've heard that about bypass but not the sleeve. Say it ain't so!!

Ha ha ha , well, for most people this unfortunately is true, however it is not caused by the surgery, it is caused by a change in our eating habits, more whole foods less preservatives and such. Have you ever been around when a vegan cuts one loose? Don't even get me started on milk farts.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that is just part of breaking down healthy foods.

I haven't noticed this at all. So maybe it depends on the person.

It's true. I never had stinky farts. Ever. Now I realize it's because I ate junk food. Already processed so my body never had to work at digesting. Now? Ha! Totally diff story. Phew.

Some people are lactose intolerant and don't know it. Try using whey Protein isolate, it's lactose free. And by the lactose free milk and see if that helps. If I take one swallow of regular milk or ice cream the pressure gets GREAT!

I have been.miserable the last few days. Horrible indigestion at first, and then the next day my stomach hurts like it did post surgery. I feel a hiccup and dread it because i know how bad its going to hurt. My stomach felt great and now all this pain & gas (i think). I just dont know what is going on. Does anyone have suggestions?

I take protonix and started gasx today. Has anyone had this?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
