Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

So i have been stuck at 196.5 for like a month and a half and i have been pretty much eating what i want etc. I think i am at the point where i wont lose anymore weight without actually dieting and exercising. Blah lol

As for the basics i was never told about how many times i had to chew my food or stop at 6 to 8 bites. I do follow the drinking during meals (although i do drink during snakes) and i don't always wait 30 min before and after. I can eat ALOTTTT more than i could initially which is fine with me and i know i wont stretch my stomach out but i need to start exercising...thats my problem. I honestly haven't at all..maybe a few times i just cant get into the swing of it.

I have lost 65lbs since surgery and 85 overall and i know i could easily be at goal or closer by now if i had been working out during all of this. I don't feel like a failure but i feel myself getting comfy with how i am now and i want to be closer to 170 and not hovering right under 200 lol

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer so far!

Hi Jenna,

You could've written this for me. I've also stalled since April and have crept down little by little since then. I have been bouncing a few pounds up and down (87 total lbs loss so far) and currently am at 152 (17 lbs from personal goal). By now I thought I would've reached personal goal but have not consistently exercised and definitely relied more on caffeine than the Water. My pants size has always been slow to lose and I'm currently in a size 12 pants when I was hoping size 9 by now.

The back to basics is a great reminder. I didn't know about the 6-8 bites either.

Still...I remind myself that its really amazing how much has been accomplished so far in 9 months and how I feel about myself now. Things like not avoiding the camera anymore, and knowing I can eat anything and be satisfied in small portions, and how my diet has improved amazingly in 9 months. How my children see a good example in changes such as diet and my going kayaking or registering for a 5K. I enjoy trying on clothes now (not necessarily buying since there isn't extra money for that) but just the idea that fashionable clothing fits and flatters.

Congratulations to everyone who has made their goal at this stage and I am very appreciative of the reminders and tips to succeed.

Ok so I haven't been doing good.. I haven't been motivated and I have been eating like crap. I woke up today and got on the scale.. Lets just say the days of me eating like crap did not go un noticed on the scale. I know there's no excuse for this and I did do 45 minutes of exercise after the scale shock. I also know I didn't come this far. To fall back into old habits.. My mother in law had the bypass and another friend of mine had the sleeve and my friend is down over 120 lbs and over a year out. My mother in law is down 100 and she had her surgery after me.. I'm down 90 and they are always on me like its a competition.. Or my mother in law will point out that she's down more than me to other people so lately I've let the stupid comments and their behavior get the best of me.. The thing that annoys me is my friend has no kids and all she does is work out at the gym and go to work.. My mother in laws kids are all grown and she just joined the gym.. Me? I have 2 toddlers and I work second shift getting home at midnight and I don't have 2 days off in a row.. I'm sorry to vent but I am just sick of the negativity from these two.. Instead of saying wow congrats you're down 90 lbs its more like oh well when you lose 100 we will celebrate..

At the doctor today for 9 month post op visit....am down 126 lbs & total of 173 since started my journey a year ago at seminar. Still have a ways to go to reach goal....about 60 more pounds. Have turned into a thrift store shopping fiend ! Going thru sizes has been very motivating.

Past six months have been crazy busy as we just finished building a new house in country and I was my own general contractor. Just got moved in last week, still lots of unpacking and organizing to do. When I look back over past year I can not believe how far I have come.

Will confess that I must have a really tiny sleeve cause still can only eat few bites at any meal. Have finally gotten to be able to finish an egg every morning for Breakfast.< /p>

I am also having the same problem. I'm snacking very often...can't seem to stop myself. I've only lost 2 lbs since May.

This sucks, guess I'll have to reign it in!

Ladies, are you all still getting in at least one Protein Shake a day? I swear, that is what makes or breaks you. My surgeons office says we should have one a day forever! Protein, protein, protein. You have to make sure you get your protein in. I slip up more than I care to admit but I always get my protein in. Plus, the exercise is so important. And this coming from the president of the "I hate to exercise" club! I do 35 minute on the elliptical every other day (for the most part). I hate it but I make myself do it. I also try and track all my food on My Fitness Pal. My name is barisaxylady on there too if you want to add me. We can do this ladies! We had MAJOR surgery! Work the tool the good surgeon gave you!

I think you need to eat more if you are doing all that exercise! It sounds like you may not be giving your body enough fuel to maintain that kind of workout and your body is in starvation mode. Do you use "My Fitness Pal"? When you log your exercise, you immediately get more calories to eat. It may sound strange but I really think you are not eating enough. You have to eat to loose weight. Have you spoken to your nut about it? Why don't you try the "MFP" for a week an eat more to compensate for the exercise. What do you have to loose "except the weight"! (sorry, couldn't resist) Let me know what happens. I am really curious to figure out what is going on.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
