Different Pre-Op Diet?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the middle of my second week of my pre-op diet. My surgery is Monday (Sept. 17). From what I have read on the forum, a lot of people are on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. My diet is bascially an Atikins diet, with liquids only the day before surgery. Have any other doctors suggested this diet? I can say that I have done my best, but I have cheated a few times. I have lost 17 lbs since I started.

Yeah. Some doctors just require low-carb. Mine was just one week. Many doctors will go according to the patient's BMI.

My diet is the same as yours. 17 lbs is great! Keep it up my friend. Start preop Sept 24.

I'm doing the low carb pre-op diet too. Less than 40g/day. I've read nutrition labels before but it never really fully registered how many carbs I was eating! It's hard to find stuff to eat. Day 3 (of 18) almost over and still totally within the plan... Turkey burgers are getting old though ...

just saw this post and realize your having your surgery today, Look forward to following your progress!

My doctor also recommends low carb preop. I do not have a date yet, still need my ultrasound which is scheduled for the 27th so most likely surgery end 0ct oct or Nov. he did not tell me how many carbs and I have been eating around 80 for last 4 days with no weight loss, but I am

constipated and not hungry.after doing a bit of research on net it appears I am suppose to be eating less than 50 carbs daily. So as of today

I will try that and see if it helps.

I know what u mean about reading labels. I never did it before. Today I was at the store

Buying a bottle of Water and my lil brother picked up a bottle of snapple. I was amazed to see that one small bottle of snapple contained 52gms carbs!! Unbelievable!

Yes I could have chose to do Atkins but my Dr would have wanted me to do it for 30days preop.

I would have loved to be able to go that route. I don't get why there are such differences either. I just posted asking about that too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
