October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

hi everyone. I've had a interesting week. Last Sunday I had some pizza get stuck and I think it irratated my Stoma so this week I haven't been tolerating much. For a second when I ate that pizza I forgot I was banded. Be careful when pizza is around. On the positive side I guess I got the whole first PB and Slime out of the way. Take care everyone.

Jodi

I have 2 more weeks on soft foods before my first fill. Am I supposed to be following the rule 'no drinking during meals"? What are you doing? I wasn't sure if this applies now since everything is still pretty soft. Thanks for your insight..

Kimberly,

I have wondered the same thing. I generally don't drink during anyway, but I have been drinking soon after.

I haven't been drinking with meals but everything has mostly been soft or soupy. Now i'm onto soft foods and i want to drink with foods. its such a learning process! i think i am still eating to fast.

I go in for my first fil on 12/14.

so after being all mad at myself this morning for my 1.5 gain, i hop back on the scale before getting into the shower. all of a sudden i was down a pound. Stupid Scale!! figure i will stick with the higher weight and no more double weighing!

Kimberly I don't drink with meals while I'm on the mushie stage. It is definitely hard not to, but I'm getting better at it as time goes on.

Ok, so I weighed in this morning and I've stayed the same. I am estactic, considering that we had Thanksgiving this week and I'm pretty much able to eat normal quantities. I get my fill on Wed - I can't wait!!

Hello October bandsters!!!

Well i had my first fill on 11/13/06 5cc. feel great. I have been working out everyday faithfully. I started at 278 now 254. I am so excited about life in general and eager to chat with anyone. I love this band. It is a great tool. Last year I ate plate full after plate full. Now I just eat my Proteins, veggies and drink 60 oz Water and life is good. I have to remember to take my Vitamins as that is a struggle but overcome that as well. I have to. I am the only person that can keep my from my goal. Take care and be safe. Jules

OMG...No Way!!! I somehow managed to loose 3 lbs last week, even though I ate sweet potato pie TWICE. I guess all the miles I logged on my exercise bike paid off. Wooohooo... I'm on my way to 10 lbs by Christmas!

Oh yeah... I go for my first fill this Fri. I'm a little nervous of how tight I will be afterward, but I am looking forward to being tight, does that make sense?

Everyone have a great week!

Happy Thanksgiving.... just a tad bit late. How did you all do? Any stories out there? Any freakish pb moment? I did get a little piece of turkey stuck... thought for sure I could handle a small second helping, but nope! I was wrong. I am not sure what to do during a pb moment. Anyone know? I heard walk it off. But I start to panic, that this thing is not going to go down, and the farther it starts to travel down my body, I feel the harder it gets stuck... so I start to panic and want it out and do my spill. Is there such a thing that it will get stuck the farther it goes down? Like to hard to pass thru and do we just let it travel on down? Or do I do more damage by trying to swallow it? And jeez all the saliva is not pleasant. I haven't pbed in a few days, but I just figured I would like to know how to pb like a pro. give me some advice.... thanks ~Raynie! Aso is beer carbonated? what about wine coolers?

Hi Raynie - a good rule of thumb for drinks is - if it fizzes, don't drink it! No champagne either. I believe wine coolers and wine are fine, but beer is a big no no!

Tomorrow I go for my first fill. I can't wait because I am stuck at a weight lose of 20lbs. I feel like I am eating more than I should. My Portion Control needs to be much smaller but I am hungry. So hopefully tomorrow will be a push in the right direction. I am still going to the gym at least 4-5 times a week.

Checking in here....

Okay, so I was totally sad and frustrated because I had not lost much lately, and I know I need a fill because I have been eating more, still not as much as I used to by any means, but just more than I should be eating...and the hoildays have been kicking my ass psychologically with temptation. So...I reluctantly get on the scale, and to my surprise I have lost another 3 pounds! I feel motivated now, so it's time to start my challenge! My hats is off to those of you who have been doing so well on the Christmas challenge! Good job band sisters!!!!

Hey Deise

We were banded on the same day and I go for my first fill on Thurs.

For all of you who aren't losing, don't feel bad. I am up bleep pounds since last week????? ;) Sure hope this fill thing works

My dr. told me he always starts with 1cc then goes up slowly from there. I orig had my appt for next week but he said he would fit me in this week because I am so concerned. I have absolutely no restriction whatsoever. I can eat beef, bread, pizza, you name it. I don't feel any different than I did before I got the band:help:

Good luck to you all. I will chat again after my first fill!

(I haven't updated my ticker, I am up 3 lbs)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
