October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

For those of you who are hungry on liquids, and if you're like me and HATE Protein powders / drinks (they're not really an Aussie thing to have anyway...), try the following:

  • adding generous amounts of yoghurt (natural / Greek is best), extra fibre (eg. Benefibre, museli) and extra fruit (eg. bananas) to smoothies;
  • adding generous amounts of yoghurt or sour cream to smoothies and soups
  • eat pouring custard (make you own with 2 cups low fat milk, 2 tblsp sugar, 2 tblsp custard powder, microwave 6 mins, stiring every 2 mins)
  • blend up chunky meat based Soups (eg. chicken & sweet corn, lamb & vegetable)
  • make your liquids slightly thicker. Our dietician says a McDonald's straw is the measure of a liquid - and I reckon I could suck a pretty thick liquid up one of those baby's!

As for the bruises - I am almost 3 weeks out and still have bruises on my thighs from the clexane (blood thinner) I was given in hospital. I have 3 - 1 for each day I was there.

Momotrips, those two incisions were my worst also. None of the other ones really bothered me too much. As for the gas, didn't have any of that either!! I have had it with past surgeries, but not with this one. I guess Dr. Naaman sucked it all out....hehehe.

Ok everyone, I will be heading out early in the morning. I have to be there at 6:30 am for the 7:30 am procedure. I am about as nervous as I can possible be. Having never been under anesthesia before has really got me freaking out!

It will all be worth it tomorrow afternoon when I am home. I'll write as soon as I feel up to it.

Good luck to all my band buddies that are going in tomorrow too!

Thanks for all of the encouragement that you've all been sharing!

Hi to my fellow bandsters! Havnt posted in awhile but still here. Ive been back to work this past week and doing very well. I feel good except for my friends making me laugh at work. I hold on to my stomach as if I was pregnant. That and sleeping on my side I just wont do. I probably could but it feels weird. The food thing I think Ive gotten used to but I definitely have hunger pains shortly after I do a protien shake maybe 1-2 hrs. I find that if I have a light creamy Soup it holds me over much longer. One thing I found to help me when I want a little treat is flan. If I can have yogurt I really cant see why i cant have flan. I make it with skim milk so it comes out very light. I also have the reccomended serving which is a half cup so the calories are about 100.Not bad. Ive even been walking on the treadmill. Im not running yet of course but I do walk everyday with no pings or pangs. Its day 13 for me today and every morning I feel better than the last. I hope everyone is doing great and for the new guys congrats and you will do great just be patient and you will be back in the swing of things in no time!

Hey guys. No fear, jump on the boat Everyone around here is doing it!!

Seriously if you were not a little scared, worried or just plain freaking out then you should have your head checked. This is a BIG step for people and it has uncetain outsomes since EVERYONE has a different experience. But dont worry there is alot of support here and the worst part is sitting at the hospital waiting your turn. After that it is all smooth sailing..becasue it is DONE.

Good luck to all this week! See you on the other banded side!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
