First Trip To Grocery Store 5D Post

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I had my first trip to the grocery story today. It was the first time I left the house since coming home from the surgery too! It felt so good almost like I was in a movie, kids on bicyles, mailman walking by. I was suprised how easy it was to walk around the grocery store. Very little if anything bothered me, I mean I was looking right at the food and I had almost no desire for anything ,except crossaints of all things. I picked up some tiny cups too, in the baby section. Its pretty amazing how that section now suddenly seems like a valid aisle to go down. I even looked at the baby food too while I was at it. Some of that stuff looked good. How long post op do you guys think it would be ok to try some of that ?

TLDR , went to grocery store and didnt feel hungry.

Any tips on a sugar free drink ? I hear some of the crystal lights are kind of yucky.

You could probably have the baby food now if you are on full liquids. Is Jello, pudding or yogurt on your list? If so then baby food should be okay.

The first time I went to the grocery store I wanted everything they had. Now my cravings are all but gone.

I really like oceanspray flavor packets. They can be a bit hard to find, but if you ave a Kroger or dillons they carry them.

Funny you mention that OTR, I did see the ocean spray grape flavored packets. I might go back and pick them up. Im not sure if its a guy thing but when I think of crystal light , I remember the commercials from the 90's with women prancing around in white summer dresses. Almost seems like its for chicks only. Ocean Spray, now thats a mans mix!

Yup that's the manly stuff...... Cran-cherry, cran-grape, cran-peach, cran-cherry limeade

I can just feel the testosterone now.

Some people push "bro-tein", others chug down a frost glass of ocean spray sugar free cran peach. If only the Ocean spray marketing people could see this.

The Ocean Spray sugar free stuff is great! It even smells like real juice (it doesn't taste like it exactly, though). The crystal lights are very good, too. You know they have a margarita flavor, don't you. Make a good slushy and sit on the porch and enjoy. No one has to know it has no liquor!!! Pretending is good sometimes!

You boys should get some Powerade Zero or G2. My hubby loves them and they are very "manly" :) I have even enjoyed them post op- both are sugar free. It's a nice change from the chick mix crystal light!

Actually I just found out about G2 powder in individual packets. Makes it even more affordable.

I like the Kroger brand Diet Pink Lemonade. It's non-carbonated, caffeine free, and zero calories. My whole family likes it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
