Recommended Posts

My surgery was Sept. 1 2012' date=' I am one month post-op. I feel awesome! thanks ene for your encouraging words![/quote']

That's great. Have you been losing at a steady rate? I've been sleeved for 3 weeks and I've lost 15 lbs. The scale hasn't moved for about a week.. sigh..

I'm a little bit higher than you all are to start off (208) - but it is a proven fact that my weight is NOT going to go down on it's own, or even if I try to lose it with diets (that's been proven too).

I am 5' 6", and the lowest weight I can remember was in 1993 when I got down to 135 lbs (from about 150 - big deal). From there it has gone up, up, up. Then next time I remember noticing my weight was in 1997, and I weighed 160. Got on Weight Watchers and lost 15 lbs, then fell off the wagon, and up it went again. Tried Medifast, Nutrisystem, Quick Weight Loss Centers, Jenny Craig, Adkins, and I would lose 10, then gain 15, over and over and over.

When I hit the dreaded 200 I said NOPE - THAT DOES IT! Time for drastic measures. And now, (well, next week on the 11th), VOILA!!!!!! I WILL BE SLEEVED!!! YAY!!!!! Good luck to all of us, even if it's slow going!! :D

I am also in the same boat with similar stats and my weight loss is at a snails pace. I was sleeved on 8/9 and have lost 31 but most of itwasright away and I have lost only about 8 lbs in this last month. I am not a patient person. I need results quickly.

Anyone under 180lbs and getting sleeves?

I have recently started to feel a bit guilty about getting sleeved for being overweight but not obese.

I have other medical issues that have helped me make the decison to get sleeved' date=' but I am curious

to see if there is anyone else in the same boat.[/quote']

I'm really close to not been approved due to my bmi been exactly 35 just crossing my fingers

Ok update. I had surgery at 175 on 8/28. And as of last week was 155#. (sorry been out of town this week and no idea on weight) but I've bougt clothes this weekend in a size 7/8 and that hasn't happened in 20 years!! So when the scale stops moving dont worry you are still losing inches!

I read page one and that was 4 days after my first surgery. I went on from there to have a second surgery because this surgery almost killed me. Having the surgery at a low BMI with no complicating factors is not worth it. I'd like to see it be against the law frankly. This is not a good vanity surgery :(

I have several co morbs and I don't think my frame can handle more weight. I am in constant pain. I am not doing this for vanity but to live a healthier longer life. My doc keeps telling me to lose weight but nothing even starving myself on the hcg diet works.

I was under 180 on sleeve day. I had no complicating factors, but I also was having it to avoid those in the future. I nearly died last week so I won't jump for joy and tell you how much I don't regret it at this point. Ironically, the complications from the surgery have added 20lbs of weight to my body so I hit the dreaded number I never wanted to see (200) because I had the surgery :(. Mind you it's all weight I will lose really fast since its from blood loss, transfusions and swelling, but dang I could of at least seen a little loss after four days in the hospital :P

That is not real weight. Don't even count it. Wait a week or two, and you'll drop everything that was Fluid based. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Sorry about the complications...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
