I had my surgery Tuesday and am home. I just took a nap for an hour and had a food dream, I had a shrimp and a piece of zucchini on a fork and was putting it towards my mouth...I woke up in a panic! I am not craving food while awake so it must be my mind working out some issues.

Keep working on the fluids so you can go home.

Good luck!

I was okay during my hospital stay, but once I got home, I don't know exactly what happened. I knew I needed to drink, but I just couldn't do it. As a result, in my first month I ended up in the hospital three times on IV fluids due to severe dehydration. I also got several serious kidney and bladder infections as well. I know it is tough, but just try to constantly sip, sip, sip. I don't want to see anyone go through what I did, you will feel lousy and it will really slow your recovery. I know it probably doesn't make you happy, but I am glad your doctor is keeping you until he/she is confident that you are going to get in the fluids you need.

Take care and please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Prior to surgery 4 weeks ago I was a Water freak! Couldn't get snug and drank several large bottles a day!!! Now.... Not so much!!!! I have a hard time with it but I have found that hot tea has become my new best friend!!!!!! Thank god or I would be having issues! Decaf with a little almond milk and sometimes sugar substitute... Ask the hospital to give u some it may just go down better.... Good luck!

Thanks, I am still not fond of just plain Water. I always add half a packet of crystal light to mine, that makes it more tolerable for me.

I don't know about anyone else, but my food dreams stopped after a while. Mine were quite vivid though. Two of my favorites were swimming in a bowl of beef stew and performing the musical Evita with a cast made up entirely of hamburgers and french fries.

LOL about the hamburgers & french fries.. xD that was so funny! and Lady J.. aww! bless your heart! lol

i am not meaning to be rude, but.. did you guys dream of food like that, because you enjoy eating it so much? or miss eating it?.. or like.. was it subconscious, because you couldn't eat as much as you were used to or something like that?..

i'm probably around 450lb and i'm a pretty picky eater... i don't like most food.. i don't drink soda pop.. i just constantly graze, because i'm bored & i don't care about myself.. some days i am just too depressed to get out of bed & don't care if i eat or not, so i don't eat and will just get up to go to the bathroom & that's it... food doesn't excite me at all & i rarely eat anything that i find to be delicious... i don't particularly like sweets and i don't like the sound i make when i crunch on chips & things like that.. so i don't normally eat stuff like that.. if something's too greasy, i get acid reflux.. my family also doesn't keep a lot of snack foods around.. the closest thing to junk food i have is canned fruit that's been sitting on the shelf for over a year because no one wants to eat it.. and a bar of baker's chocolate, which has also been on the shelf for over a year. lol so i dunno.. maybe i would have food dreams.. just because i'm so used to eating all the time.. do you think it is the same for you ladies & gents?..

in any case, i hope you (griega) will get to feeling better ASAP & that you will heal wonderfully & flawlessly & fast! :) hope you will find something you like, so you can get those fluids into your body! :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
