I'm 55 And Had My Sleeve Done On August 8

Recommended Posts

I have struggled with bathroom issues too. I have only gone twice since I have been home. It seems to be very common so I am not going to stress out over it.

I plan to try the ricotta bake. It sounds really good ;) anything but liquids sound good! Thankfully I am not hungry most of the time. I am enjoying that. Counting down the days until I can have a scrambled egg!!

How did you doctors appointment go? Were you able to address your heartburn situation? If so' date=' what was the remedy suggested?[/quote']

Hi Katie, the Dr reminded to sip my liquids. It seems to be working. I did pick up some Pecid Complete and it is helping too.. He assured me it will get easier as my swollen stomach heals. I was cleared for stage two meals and cleared to riding my exercise bike.

jules58 - Good for you, you've had or will soon have your surgery!

Take it slow and easy, that is my best advice. Set yourself up for success with all the things you need to get through the various stages of eating.

Not sure what recommendations you have in Oz - but for most of us here in the U.S. we start with a few days of Clear Liquids, then full liquids, then pureed/soft diet and finally regular foods with a focus on healthy eating, Protein first, then veggies, then whole grain starches. I seem to lose best with a low carb diet.

Hope you continue to do well and feeling good about surgery. Feel free to chat with us anytime!!

I had surgery 4/6/12 and am doing well.

Imborderlon....your surgery is just around the bend. Are you on a pre-op diet right now?

Yes ma'am! I am day 4 of my pre-op diet. It is not horrible, but I miss actually sitting down to eat a meal. I feel like drinking everything is not reallly eating....I know that must sound crazy.

I am getting a little nervous. I just had my final nutrition class....praying that it is not as bad as they made it out to be in class.

There are indeed some people that get a leak weeks after surgery, and sometimes there is no easy way to tell why this happens. People who have band to sleeve revisions seem to have issues - perhaps because of tissue erosion from the band that changes the density of the stomach tissue and it has to heal properly. Others no doubt overwhelm the sleeve by eating too much or having carbonated beverages that expand the stomach before it's properly healed. The stages of eating are there for a reason...it makes sense to go err on the side of caution and go easy.

Are you worried about the surgery or the dietary changes or both? I am a bit over 4 months out and I can eat most foods, but in very small portions. I have to work at eating the right things so I am realizing I have to stay focused while in this stage post-op since this is the period where the highest percentage of weight will be lost. I have had to deal with my relationship with food as well, and cannot turn to food the way I used to. The best part is feeling so much healthier and being able to walk for miles, have flexibility, no headaches, being able to tie my shoes and fit into a booth, and no longer having to shop at the big girl stores. It is worth the work it takes to lose the weight. The journey has alot of meaning to me too, I am finally a priority!! My kids all know this too, and are proud of me!!

I think I am worried about the pain of surgery because I have never had any kind of surgery. Then I am worried about what life will be like after surgery....all of it is the fear of the unknown, but it just makes me nervous!

Being nervous is normal...we go into this knowing we are taking a risk. I decided it was worth the risk and if I were not to lose the weight, as my PCP said to me, you will probably be back in the hospital having another kind of surgery...i.e. a possible heart attack or stroke. My BMI was high and I had high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I did this to save my life and my cholesterol is now normal and I have cut my blood pressure medicine in half, soon I won't have to take it at all !

For me, the pain wasn't bad...I did have some discomfort from gas, but it helped to walk and they gave me a morphine pump and I used it the first day so that I could rest. I was walking around all afternoon after surgery...and home the next day.

The diet can be hard...but time passes fast and before you know it you can enjoy a healthy diet and you get full incredibly fast.

You can do this.

Hello Gorgeous Ladies!

I am 52 and getting my sleeve in 12 days (September 10th). I am a revision...getting my lapband removed and sleeve done at the same time (I hope!). I am thinking positive and I know that I can do this! I have lost 38 pounds so far on my pre-op diet and only another 60 pounds to go until I hit onederland! I can overcome my weight! I can be sexy, beautiful and awesome!

Wish me luck!

Hello "50" sleevers!!! My name is Connie and I am 3 wks 1 day post op. Surgery was 8/9/12. I've lost about 17 pounds and doing very well... Just seem to be a little tired most of the time... but, that's not completely unusual for me.

I am still on my full liquid diet, transitioning within the next week to soft/mushy food. I am starting to experiment a little bit, tonight I had a little bit of mac n cheese, I ran it through the blender. I am so tired of the Protein shakes and Soups... just needed something with some taste to it. About 2 ounces feels like I ate the whole box... UGH~~~

I also am a "band to sleeve" patient... so, I understand all about going slow....

How is everyone else doing?

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
