I have been having bad head hunger... And have been giving into it to a point... How do I stop?!?

I know I have to try and think about other things, and realize I didn't get this surgery and spend all this money to mess up... But what else can I do!

?

Thanks

Me too. :( I know I am full. I can feel it. But still I want... I have been eating sunflower seeds but now I think I am overdoing even that.Plus the sodium.

I'm in therapy,,I really struggle and that is the only thing that is keeping me focused. I have bad days then I'll see my therapist and I'll get back on track. It's a roller coaster for me and it really slows my weight loss down. As easy as it is for some to say,,why would you want to screw this up..well some people have issues and really eat for different reasons than just food tasting good. I can overeat on veggies as well as some kind of sweet treat. I've done it before I even realize it. My mind will be somewhere else,,maybe stress or anxiety..anythin brings it on. I am an emotional eater and it's something I've been trying to work on since before surgery. You think you have it licked then something bad happens and like any other addiction..food just strikes out.

I deal with head hunger like this:

If it's a trigger food for me, I don't keep it in the house. I can have loads of chocolate and cake laying around and I won't overeat it, but I can demolish a box of Triscuits in a day.

For other types of head hunger (and you can always tell, can't you, I never crave a Protein shake or cucumber slices) I first have something to drink. Sometimes the liquid fills me up and I'm fine.

If that doesn't work, I go for a fast walk outisde Sometimes just five minutes is enough to give myself a good talking-to and breathe deeply and muster my resources. Maybe do a few stretches and toe-touches.

If walking doesn't help, I try to distract myself with TV or reading, or, best of all, embroidery or knitting or doing something with my hands. It's hard to eat if your hands are full of something else.

After I have done all those things, if I am still craving whatever it is, and it's in the house, it's usually time to eat a regular meal again. I eat Protein first, then have the head-hunger treat. The protein fills me up so I can't eat much of whatever else I crave.

Hope this helps someone else.

That's really great advice! Thanks

And you are so true... I know it's head hunger because it's bad stuff I am craving. Thank you.

When I get head hunger, and just can't escape it's nagging, I eat meat, chicken or pork first to fill me up and retrain my brain to associate meat with head hunger. After eating Protein, and I still have that nagging little voice, I will allow myself a small portion (remember I'm physically full from the protein), about 1/2 a coffee cup (a real coffee cup, not a Starbucks Grande!) of whatever I'm craving. I'm normally satisfied after that.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
