One week of "things that can go through a straw"

One week of mushies

Then onto solid foods

I am five days out from surgery and SICK of Soup. I just ate some SF Jel-O and it tasted like heaven.

When does the exhaustion go away?

Dear Cindyn: I am having my surgery this Friday, 28th and am so excited. I am glad to hear that you are doing well. I hope I do well. I have done well on the pre-diet. I wanted to tell you something my Phychologist told me. She said, the band is a tool. If we had to dig a hole, we would use a shovel not our hands. All we have to do to be successful is to make up our mind to use this tool so we will BE SUCCESSFUL! not if, maybe, WE WILL!. WE EITHER DECIDE WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS OR GO BACK BEING MISERABLE FAT. This has helped me through the pre-op diet. I hope this advice helps you too! I guess I am so ready for this journey. I threw my fat clothes magazines away, because I am not buying one more fat outfit. Nancy FTW

My doctor is VERY conservative about introducing solid foods! Here's my schedule:

Clear Liquids -- 2 weeks

Full (blended) liquids -- 4 weeks

Soft foods -- until five MONTHS post-op

"Normal" foods -- after five months

He also doesn't allow calories from liquid -- that is, Protein shakes -- after the first six weeks.

He and his nutritionist said I will lose most of my weight in these first five months. This schedule gives me time to relearn how to eat and get used to my band and the adjustments.

Because I really don't want to experience being stuck, sliming, and PB'ing, this conservative approach is okay with me. But I'm a pretty boring eater and once I find some foods that I like that fit into this schedule, I can pretty much eat the same thing every day.

I was eating potato Soup 2 days after being banded and by weeks end was eating more solids but had to mush most of it.

By 2 weeks I was simply eating what I could tolerate.

I was prescribed diet stages as follows:

Liquid Clear - first two days after surgery during hospital stay

Liquid Foods - Weeks 1 & 2

Pureed/Mushy - Week 3

Soft/Chopped - Week 4

Regular - Week 5 forward

I think I might do the Pureed/Mushy foods for 2 weeks instead of only 1. I don't want to rush things.

I only had 4 days on liquids because I was so hungry and feeling weak, I was allowed on to mushies 1 1/2 weeks early! But the ideas was: 1 1/2 - 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks mushies, then gradually more and more solid.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
