From Approval To Surgery

Recommended Posts

How long did it take once your insurance approved you for you to have surgery? What is the typical wait time to get on the surgeon's schedule?

I know if varies from surgeon to surgeon; just curious...

Approved July 23- scheduled for surgery August 17 for me. It took about 2 weeks for the office to call to schedule me once I was approved.

At my surgeon's info seminar, he said the entire process takes from 3 weeks to several months. That includes first appointment through date of surgery. I hope I am on the shorter end of that range!

I am not yet scheduled, but my patient advocate (us doctor) told me 3 to 4 weeks to schedule the actual surgery. You get your preop appt in 1-2 weeks

It depends on the insurance....my insurance approved me before I even met with my surgeon....other people have to get everything don with tests and the surgeon before they are approved. So lots of factors to consider.

I was wondering how people would get approved so quickly. My insurance wants all requirement met before approval and my surgeon will only schedule the date after the approval is in. I have seen how some surgeons will schedule before the actual approval.

My surgeon's wait is 3-4 weeks after approval. Hoping for early Oct.

One week. They called and I had to go on the pre-op diet that day!

I am on Kaiser, I have been approved for the referral to the surgeon. I have my appt for my consult on the 16th with the surgeon and I will find out more at that time. I do know that I asked the surgeons office what is the time frame from surgeon approval to actual Sleeve date, and she said 3 to 4 weeks. Not bad, but I have been at this whole process since March as Kaiser requires Options class of 12 weeks.

Mine took a little over three weeks. I got approval, had to wait until the following week for my appointment with surgeon and was scheduled for two weeks after.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
