How's This For 'fried' Food?

Recommended Posts

ok, so, I had some boneless skinless breast tenderloins that, in the past, would be fried in oil or butter. I had a hankering for that and after a few days of thought, this is what I came up with. The main reason to avoid 'fried' foods is because the oil/grease/butter that we cook it in is full of calories and fat, right?

Well, i have been using parkay butter spray for all of my butter needs, it has 0 calories, 0 fat and only 5mg sodium. So I thought to myself, why not? I unscrewed the sprayer, and poured just enough to cover the bottom of my skillet, heated it and fried up the tenders. It tasted awesome.

Any thoughts? Is this a great idea, or is this a good intention and I'm not seeing the downside? Honest question here. My sleeve treated it like anything else I've eaten. What are your thoughts?

P.S. This is not a 'gateway' thing, nor a slippery slope. Had I not thought of this, I would have just gotten over my hankering, and had an Emilybites cupcake, so, no worries, just haven't talked to my nut yet, so I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks guys, much love.

Does this make the chicken at all greasy? My only concern is that the food would "slip through" more yout stomach more easily.

Not at all, like I said, I barely used any of the spray. I used a 6" sautée skillet, and only used enough to "coat" the bottom of the skillet. Not enough to soak it in. Maybe 2 Tblsp. The tenders were very juicy, but crisp on the outside.

This sounds great! I will keep it in mind when I get to move to "real" food sometime in October.

when I was on weight watchers. I plugged the numbers into their app and even if I used 1000 sprays it would still be a 0 point food. so I would say go for it. as long as it is not an everyday thing

Sounds good to me. I'm a big fan of spray butter but never thought of using it that way. I will now.

Yeah, I was thinking approaching this with a definite moderation level. I was thinking maybe 1 or 2 times a month.

I hate to break this to you, but zero calorie spray butter is NOT zero calories! What you are dealing with is the ugly truth of the federal government and lobbyists. In truth anything that has .5g or less per serving can be listed as zero calories. That is why the serving size is only 1-5 sprays. The sad reality is that the entire bottle contains 900+ calories and 90 grams of fat!

What I really like to do is take chicken breast strips, coat them with just enough olive oil mayo, then sprinkle them with bread crumbs. It is moist and delicious! Just for those times when you really have a hankering :)

And then bake it obviously haha

We have done the baked chicken strips - dip it in milk, or egg white or basically anything wet and somewhat sticky and then roll in breadcrumbs, corn flakes, anything crunchy, add a touch of parmasean cheese, or onion Soup mix, some salt or pepper to taste, whatever you like. We then put them on a wire rack, so they are not sitting on the pan, so the bottom doesn't get soggy. Turn occasionally and enjoy.

The same as real fried chicken - NO; better than eating one more piece of grilled chicken - HECK YES.

I'm sleeved now a month and 3 days. How are any of you eating any food. My doctor andy nut told me to eat some food now, like chicken but I can't seem to eat anything without throwing up.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
