I'm 8 weeks out and nothing tastes good. I'm having a lot of trouble reaching my calorie and Protein goals for the day. It seems that most food makes me a little nauseous at the thought of eating it. lunch meat, Greek yogurt, Protein shakes, smoothies, most meats are all just gross right now. Not sure what to do. Its like my taste buds and sense of smell are superhuman and it makes everything taste off.

Anybody else have a problem eating?

They ARE off, and will be for a little while. It normalizes again. A little too well for me in fact. ;)

It comes back. Enjoy the assistance while you have it!

I learned recently, when your body is losing weight rapidly and goes into ketosis, your mouth actually makes acetone. Seems reasonable this would affect the way things taste. If you have that icky white film on your tongue, get a tongue brush or scraper. I also recommend Therabreath mouthwash. It helps cut the 'film' that seems to form on the teeth.

I felt this way until about 3.5- 4 months out. it gets better!! those months are when I lost the majority of my weight so it was well worth it!

The thought of whey Protein Powder shakes or added to Soup, juice, applesauce, etc. makes me gag. I true to choke it down Sunday (my surgery was on Friday). Yesterday was awful, I barely got 300 calories because I was so nauseous. Today I feel extremely weak and lightheaded. I would rather not eat than choke down whey Protein. I'm gagging as I even type it.

I'm 5 wks Post op and I am feeling the same way. In a way this is good but in a way it is bad. I haven't lost any weight in about 1.5 wks. I am not getting my Protein in or my calories. The Protein Shakes make me gag and so does the greek yogurt. these are the main way I was getting my protein. I have tried lunchmeat, Beans, etc... it just seems I can't get enough in to count for anything. So I know exactly what you mean. I hope it gets better for you and in a way it's nice to know I'm not by myself.

That's makes me feel better! It sucks for us but I'm not alone. I feel guilty almost that I can't enough protein! I dread that disappointed look I'll get at my next appointment!

I have been feeling sooooo weak today. I am so light headed and can barely sit up. I finally had to get some Protein. I tried the 'Protein To Go' shots. They have 28g of protein and 120 calories. It's only a small amount to drink so it is easier to choke down than a Protein Shake. I've only tried chocolate. http://proteintogo.com/

Please believe me....it gets better . I thought i would never say that but now i can say ....it really does.. I even had a set back that put me back in the hospital for 2weeks. I even began regreting my choice. It takes time for your body to reset... Some get there quickly others (Like us) take a while. But you will get there.

Calories are not the most important thing right now, PLEASE make sure you're well hydrated. Dehydration can also make you feel lightheaded, and slows the healing process. get your liquids in first for now, and add calories and Proteins later.

Absolutely true! But calories and Protein are important to weight loss. Less than 800 calories a day will set you in starvation mode and your body will hold on tight to your weight by slowing you metabolism down. Fluids first, Protein and nutritious calories next

Agreed, but the poster I was responding to (tamantha0) is only 4 days post-op. Healing is more important than weight loss right now, IMO.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
