Do a search for regrets, and you will find people who feel that way the first month or two especially. We are all different, but I was so READY for this surgery that I never had feelings of regret. I knew what to expect and things were not as bad as I had mentally prepared for. Don't get me wrong, I went through about a 2 month period of feeling tired and a little blue.... but I had read enough to know that was very common. And like everyone said, it did get better.

And look at me now, getting fitter, looking better, outstanding bloodwork, no more high blood pressure... etc etc.

I am positively thrilled with my results. You know what, I think I am starting to believe this is going to work - I have given away my bigger clothes! It is real this time.

I regretted it terribly for the first month and a half. I was so mad at myself. Butt things got easier after that and are still getting better. Now I'm happy with my choice. :) and looking good!

Wow, Jaymzee! A month and a half? That is a long time to be regretting it. Did you have complications that made you regret it or just the fact that you couldn't take in the volume you used to?

How far out are you now? How much have you lost? Any advice for a pre-opper?

I regretted the decision 48 hours out from the surgery because of the hellish nausea I was not prepared to endure. (yes..i was told nausea could be slight to moderate)..I even had hyperemesis gravidarum during my pregnancy with my daughter..so I am no stranger to nausea with eye popping vomitting) Nothing..and I mean nothing seemed to settle the nausea..I had a scopolamine patch, and phenergan and Zofran giving every two hours alternatively. Some nurse shoved an alcohol pad up my nose thinking it would help and completely choked me. I literally told my husband that I couldn't live with the intense nausea I was experiencing and wanted the dear Lord to take me home if it didn't subside. BUT at the 72 hour marker ..it got better..and better every day. Now..the only time nausea hits me is if I try a food I know probably won't suit ..and honestly..I dislike the nausea so I stay away from foods that I know I don't tolerate. Anyway..I don't regret my decision now..down 75# since April 3rd. Life is way better!

Well at 4 weeks i got a kidney stone from being dehyrated. I was having a lot of trouble with the whole " cleaning my plate" mind set and was having trouble with Protein. Just in general i wasn't as prepared mentally as i thought i was.

I'm now 11 weeks out. Down 60 pounds && getting the hang of portions and everything. :)

I regretted it for about a week two weeks out. Battled some depression. My mom had left and I still wasn't back to work. 3 months out and no more regrets!

I wouldn't say I regret surgery because I've lost more weight than I could on my own. But ever since surgery I've had a problem digesting Protein and now I have a stricture they are going to try and stretch out next Friday! Hopefully that will be a one time fix and then I'll be back on the happy train!

I thought I was going to regret it for almost a week after surgery because you really do experience so many emotions and it is so permanent. What kept me from regretting it and being an emotional wreck was the fact that I kept telling myself that the liquid phase was just temporary. I kept reminding myself that a couple weeks of very bland, non-fulfilling broths and Jello was only temporary in this permanent process and that my diet would return to normal soon (even though I knew it was going to be a "new normal"). The beginning stages were tough but nothing I will ever regret. Actually, the tough parts make me appreciate this whole journey even more.

Good luck to you all on this journey and I hope everyone can make the best of it. It was definitely the right choice for me.

No regrets. One of the best decisions in my life! Wish I would have done sooner.

My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. Sure I miss not being able to eat as much as I used to, but that was the whole point of me being overweight. After 4 months since surgery I have gotten used to eating 3 to 4 bites and laying down the fork and I can't remember when I could go for second and third helpings. Its life changing and you have to get used to new habits but it is all for the Best! :D

Two years out and I have no regrets at all. There are days when I miss eating what I used to eat, but that is how I got into trouble in the first place. It truly has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I am 9 days away from a year out, and I have no regrets. I did think I'd be at goal by now. I still have another 30 pounds.

To be honest, I think I could have been at goal by now if I'd continued to deny myself some food types. I don't eat a lot of them, but it slows my weight loss (popcorn/alcohol, for example). Part of why I didn't deny myself is because I didn't get this surgery to deny myself. I wanted a tool not a lock.

I still plan on getting to goal. It just didn't happen the first year. But what I have lost and how much better I feel? Priceless.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
