Well, I've been very vocal about having this surgery and my boss, HR and most of my 'work' friends know as well as immediate family. Now that the date is getting closer, one of my 'work' friends (I really hate to actually call her a friend, she is really just a co-worker, as she's done lots of not very nice things to me over the years...but I don't dwell on that negative crap) she is saying things like - I can't believe you'd have surgery JUST to lose weight....so she went to the company gym (we have one here at the office) and spoke with the trainer and such and told him that she'd like to lose weight the CORRECT way, not by having surgery - I was standing right there.....it was like WOW, really - I walked away before my mouth said something I'd regret- pretended to look at the weight machines.

On the way back to our desks - my comment to her was - losing weight is a challenge, at my age and being recently diagnosed with diabetes (5 months ago) I know what I NEED to do, and for me this surgery is to save my life to extend my life - not to just lose weight so i can buy cute clothes again, but to each their own, what works for you is for you - my decision to take back control of my life is my decision. If you are not going to support me, then let's just not discuss it. She got pissy and walked off......but came around later like nothing was wrong.

I don't really care what anyone says about me having this surgery - I know it's the right thing for ME - the hell with everyone else......it is ALL ABOUT ME at this time in my life.

This is my time....... :P

Good for you for speaking to her. Some people have a personality problem and she must be one of them! Hold your head high and be proud of yourself for taking control. Don't let her drag you down!

Good for you!. No one knows better what your body needs than you and she really has some nerve talking to the trainer about you!. Some people have no boundries.

I have told the HR person here at my office and my friend the office manager (Both are going to do the pre-op liquied diet with me as support!) I am not quite sure yet what to tell my boss (I work with 4 men) He knows I have been going to alot of Dr. appointments and has asked if Im ok. Well, I'm OK, but I'm FAT and I have high blood pressure, I have inflated diabetes numbers etc, but Im not going to tell him that. My HR person said, you dont have to tell him, just say your having surgery and will be out for two weeks, end of story.

Anyone else have a suggestion? Thanks

I've decided to let people know about this as well. Until the surgery is over I'm not advertising it but I'm not keeping it a secret either. I don't care who knows about it. A few people at work know about it so far and most have been supportive. I don't feel judged about the surgery itself, but I'm feeling judged for choosing to go to Las Vegas and pay a discounted cash rate instead of staying in my area and doing it at one of the local hospitals, as if I'm going to some shady, back street place. The local hospitals are great but cost about $5,000 more, and since my husband is doing this at the same time, it'd be impossible to do that. I have confidence that it'll all go well and am curious to see what happens afterward, when more people know. I've heard a lot of interesting stories on here, including yours, about how people react. Bring it on! I agree 100% with your reply to your co-worker. My bet is there'll be more from my work who choose to go this route, especially now with the publicity LIsa Lampanelli is bringing to the procedure.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
